Sage

Sage

To be a sage in Enderlin is to have devoted one’s life to the pursuit of knowledge, wherever it may be found. Across the continent, wisdom is preserved not only in books but in the whispers of ancient halls, the teachings of secluded monasteries, and the scrolls kept in the vaults of mages’ academies. For a sage, learning is never complete: every question answered births a dozen more, and every discovery illuminates new mysteries of the world.

In the bustling old capital of Endor, scribes and scholars pore over ledgers and codices in the Grand Imperial Library, decoding histories and recording treaties that shape kingdoms. In the Great Library of Lóchlindor, elven librarians preserve texts older than the oldest human settlements, and sages learn not only the stories of the world but the languages, runes, and secrets that keep them alive. On the borderlands between the Dwarven Hold of Karak Azkahr and the Kaiserreich Mittemark, the Monasteries of Azuth welcome wandering scholars, offering access to magical treatises and philosophical debates. In the west of Mittemark, the Imperial Mage Academy in Endor and the arcane colleges of the Emirate of Zaralem teach the subtle arts of spellcraft, celestial study, and the patterns of the multiverse itself.

Life as a sage in Enderlin is more than study—it is exploration. Apprentices learn to decipher cryptic texts, trace the histories of lost civilizations, and seek out lore in the ruins of ancient dwarven holds or hidden elven sanctuaries. Many sages become keepers of knowledge, advising rulers, chronicling wars, or cataloging discoveries that might otherwise vanish. Others wander, carrying books, maps, and scrolls across distant lands, exchanging ideas with scholars, artisans, and curious minds alike.

Yet not all sages remain cloistered. Some journey into the wilds to study natural wonders, travel to distant deserts or jungles to recover lost knowledge, or follow rumors of magical phenomena to their source. Some challenge the orthodoxy of their teachers, daring to ask questions others fear to voice. In all cases, their lives are marked by an unending hunger for understanding, tempered by the patience and discipline that scholarship demands.

To be a sage in Enderlin is to carry knowledge into the world, to stand at the crossroads of curiosity and discovery, and to understand that the true power of the learned lies not in magic or might, but in the wisdom to ask the right questions—and the courage to seek the answers.
