Pendaire

Province in the West of the Agroven kingdom, composed of the Annuremyn hills and coastal planes. Ruled by Count Bartolo of House Martes, it contains the villages of Caeldun and Trafinn. The region is wild, with little to no roads and many natural and unnatural dangers. Remains of small villages and forgotten ruins of earlier giant, dwarven and elvish cultures can be found throughout the wilderness.

Geography

Uvejrgal

Large island six miles of the coast of Pendaire. It is known for being quite inhospitable. Almost no trees grow on the island, which rises from the sea in sheer cliffs. The windswept highlands and narrow ravines of the island are dotted with rock formations which form fantastical shapes. The weather is often brutal. Fierce winds, huge waves and ferocious thunderstorms scour the western shores, eroding them and creating dangerous shoals. The calmer streets between the island and the mainland are often shrouded in mist.

History

In ancient times this area was part of the T'aemärrir woods and thus the kingdom of Ivaern'aldeth. Later the the Alliance of Girin-Ubgrûr flourished in the region around present day Caeldun.   More recent most of the region used to be under the influence of the Pennrich dwarven family, which built their seat of Castle Penntor in the Annuremyn and the town of Trafinn on the banks of Fisher's Reapite. This was one of the first kingdoms to be established in southern Ylirn after the Wounding of the Weave. Eventually they were crushed by the giants of the Daudrvell when these expended their influence under the leadership of the Tagesen clan.   Trafinn and Caeldun were (re)built by adventurous settlers from the Meadow Vale under the indifferent rule of the giants and remained small but free villages until the rise of the Agroven kingdom. The kingdom came into conflict with the Tagesen clan and a war followed during which Caeldun was destroyed. After the defeat of the giants a series of nobles were elevated to the position of Count of Pendaire, but none of them did much to develop the region. During this time the small villages Thundertree and Coneyberry were founded and Caeldun was partially rebuilt, but Trafinn remained the only town. During the Strife of the Scions Trafinn was burned to the ground by the retaliating forces of House Thenebrys after an attack on Westpoint, causing the ruling House Ashbridge to retreat their remaining forces to Ilvern and join their allies in a last effort to seize the rest of the Meadow Vale and Torindach in the name of Alastair Morelyn. Raiders from the Dewshine plains and Daudrvell mountains immediately took their chance and swarmed into Pendaire, laying waste to Thundertree, Caeldun and Coneyberry before returning to the north.   When the war concluded the region passed into the hands of House Martes, who rebuilt Trafinn on the other bank of Fisher's Respite. Thundertree also recovered as most of its people had survived by fleeing into the woods. A mysterious magical wildfire destroyed it again some thirty years after being rebuilt, killing more then a hundred people. Twisted creatures flooded the ruins, causing the village to be abandoned for good as House Martes was unwilling to commit their forces to clear the woods of danger. Years later some of the survivors were among the group of adventurous souls from Irveln who started to rebuild Caeldun around 160 A.F.
