Clay Character in Emynea | World Anvil

Clay

Original Form: Himalayan Wolf
Magic: Shape shifting and all earth magic
Master: Ylithuum
Partner: Ala

Clay is one of the ten main Elemental Familiar. He serves Ylithuum, earth. Clay's partner Ala works alongside Lily Desjardins in the Ilnithic organization, also holding the title of Mother . She watches out for the well-being of their members and manages their community, bringing everyone together. Clay and Ala are quite close, Clay being rather protective of her.

Clay himself is reliable, loyal, stubborn and amiable. In the company of humans he seems stoic and surly, only Ala able to hear what he has to say--which is usually riddled with jokes and hardy laughter. He becomes far more boisterous, outgoing and comical when interacting with the other familiars. He has always enjoyed poking fun at Duff but never in a mean-spirited way. He is fun loving and enjoys bringing their cohorts together, successful or otherwise. Duff finds him annoying but harmless, despite the bulk of his draconic form. However, Duff is quite aware he isn't to be underestimated or dismissed.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

by Lee Stepp

Compared to the rest of the elemental familiars, Clay is the largest, sturdiest and most muscular by default. He tends to prefer species which best reflect these characteristics, often playing the role of tank or muscle in combat. He also generally lines his body or converts it into stone or metal to further his sturdiness or simply for decorative purposes.

Special abilities

Able to take on the shape of any beast or animal he comes into contact with as well as freely manipulating earth magic, unless Ylithuum cuts him off.

Personal history

by Lee Stepp

Much like Duff and Spirit, Clay is one of the original ten beasts chosen by the Accian hero. He has a very stable and co-operative relationship with his master and they both work towards a common interest.

Failures & Embarrassments

Like a number of the original familiars, Clay feels the Accian hero misled and took advantage of him and his allies. He feels they were young and naive, not yet understanding the full scope of what was at play when they were sucked into this conflict. He regrets their actions in the Downfall of the Erlithmanil and feels responsible for putting things right. However, he also feels Sol and Stella are correct in believing Zalikar is not fit to lead the Erlithmanil, his actions too extreme. He trusts in his master's judgement in these matters.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

by Lee Stepp

Compared to the other elements and familiars who side with Lithmor in the schism between the Erlithmanil, Ylithuum is rather neutral. Much like Rain, Clay believes the world needs the Erlithmanil in order to maintain the natural balance. However, she still believes in the strength and beauty of humanity and is a great advocate of community. Clay aligns with her beliefs wholeheartedly including her endorsement of and taking a maternal role in Ilnithic. Both of them feel responsible for the well-being of the shape shifters birthed by their pacts and machinations. They see how they suffer and how they crave community and are happy to consider them their children, to protect them. Clay still believes Lily might be manipulating and taking advantage of Ala's sympathy, her protective nature, but he is also fiercely loyal, taking his partner's lead.
