Abron (Kingdom)

The Heartland of Emiroth

The kingdom of Abron is one of the most powerful nations in Emiroth. It is rich in resources, and its people are as diverse as its terrain. Built in the heartland of the west, well distant from the Withered Lands, Abron is filled with great fortresses, bustling cities, quiet villages, ancient ruins, and untamed wilds. The kingdom occupies most of the western heartland and also maintains ownership of the islands of Ditani and Whitewurm in the North Sea, as well as a handful of smaller islands and islets.

Geography

Main Article: Abron   Abron is a well-settled land, though much of the population is concentrated along the coast, especially around Thimlor Bay in the southeast of the country, though the coast road provides a safe passage from the populated southern region up to its northern terminus in. Settlements are more sparse further inland and north. The southern and northern parts of the country are mostly woodlands, while the east and south are coastal plains.   The central region of the country is a mostly barren waist, though it is rich in natural resources, especially in the Akud Waste in the west. This region is especially rich in iron and copper, along with stone and other more precious metals. These resources are mined or quarried and then hauled along the Iron Road, usually to the town of Laifritoft to be carried east to the capital, or traded with merchants from Conwy or Nulbundin.

Structure

The Kingdom of Abron is ruled by the King of Abron. The King is the absolute monarch of Abron and has full authority to make and enforce the laws of the kingdom. Although he is not legally bound to heed its advice, the king's court is comprised of two advisory councils: the Privy Council of Abron, which advises the king on matters of national importance, and the Council of Thanes, which reports the condition of the various parts of the kingdom to the king.   Towns throughout the kingdom are each administered by a thane, though some of the larger cities are ruled by an earl, who may appoint thanes to see to each of the city's varied districts. Briathelond, the capital, is managed by the Duke of Briathelond, who appoints a thane over each of Briathelond's four districts.   The king also periodically installs other lords (usually styled as barons) over steadings, who are then responsible for maintaining those steadings and serving on the king's Privy Council.
