Suncrest
History
Legend says that Banoclese slew a manticore to claim a perfect spot for settlers. The resulting town of Suncrest, nestled in the rolling hills of the southern marches, on the edge of Ravens Bay was founded around 680. This town grew over time and was one of the larger cities during the Age of Petty Kings.
During its golden age, Suncrest became a beacon of innovation. Its artisans were renowned for their finely crafted pottery and stonework, which adorned cities across the region. Philosophers and scholars from Suncrest founded the city’s famed Temple of Helios a center of piety and worship.
Despite its prosperity, Suncrest’s location in the southern marches left it vulnerable to invasions and border skirmishes. The city’s citizens, however, proved resilient. Suncrest developed a unique system of citizen-soldiers, where every free person was expected to take up arms in defense of their home. These Ravenseye Hoplites earned renown for their discipline and courage, often turning the tide of battle despite overwhelming odds. Over time those who showed strong martial skill were retained, and used as professional solders and city guards.
Today, Suncrest remains a thriving small city, a harmonious blend of tradition and progress. The Black Wing Port still serves as the heart of civic life, while the Temple of Helios continues to attract seekers of knowledge from near and far. Suncrest stands as a testament to the power of intellect and unity, a shining gem in the southern marches.
