Badum, Capitol of Argyle

Prince Luctor originally named the capitol of Argyle "Freeland".  When it was clear that name was causing confusion and attracting new citizens with a false premise, he elected to change the name to the term the residents had been using all along.  A very popular song at the time claimed "Ba-dum" was the sound that Beryl's body made when it crashed right before Luctor drove his sword into the beast.

History

Shortly after his coronation, Luctor divided his forces so that one group could continue to clear the Green Dragonflight from the land, while the other could rest and oversee the founding of their new capital, rotating as needed.     By 287 YR, the first buildings were completed and roads had been established connecting "Freeland" to vital trading paths. As new citizens arrived that spring and summer, many settled in the capital until it was deemed that land further and further afield would be safe enough for settlement.    In 291 YR, the Dukes and Duchess declared their formal seats of power, and many citizens from Badum left to seek greater fortune in the frontiers. Their homes weren't vacant for long as rumors of war and unrest abroad have ensured that a consistent flow of people seeking peace and opportunity reaches Argyle.

Architecture

As a bit of a melting pot, the building styles in Badum vary based on both the materials afforded by the builder as well as that builder's nation of origin.  Popular styles invoke the grandeur of Sirastir for municipal buildings, or the gentle elegance of the elves (both Ogrian and Dolonite) for community gathering places.    While no formal or informal sections have been created within the capital itself, some immigrants have begun to form insular communities, so an observant traveller may notice small groupings of similar building facades.
