The Laws of Emaxus
The gods are very real, but very absent.
The idea of the "universe" is blurred. The world sits within the Great Wheel of the Planes, but what lies out within the stars of the Emaxian skies is unknown. Is there more to the Prime Material Plane out in the sea of stars? Or is that simply the Astral Sea, within which Emaxus floats?
Magic is very present within the world, though it has not reach the unfettered and extremely dangerous heights of the Age of Rebirth.
The world has undergone countless cataclysms, and survived (or been reborn) through each.
Cosmology
Emaxus has been around for millions of years, back in the age of the first Gods. These Gods, the "Creators," forged the multiverse and everything in it. They were simply known as the Pantheon. But when war broke out between two sects within the Pantheon, they proceeded to kill each other off in what came to be known as "The War of Creation." During this conflict, a group of unbelievably powerful and ancient Elder Evils known as "the Five" were unleashed, leading the few remaining Gods to sacrifice themselves to seal them away once more.
But not before they stopped by Emaxus. During their brief time Shaping Emaxus, the Gods blessed a group of creatures who would come to be known as the Aerylar (the First-Born). These god-touched mortals would rise to conquer the primordial chaos of Emaxus, and bring the first semblance of order to the world. But when the world became a shackle to them, the Aerylar fled to the stars to pursue ever greater heights, where they may still exist today. In their wake, new mortals rose. Their first Age came to an end with an apocalypse of their own making, and their second Age came to an end with another divine war: the Obsidian War. When Vivrah, God of His Own Making, arrived on Emaxus to smite down a group of heroes who had drawn his ire: the Silver Dawn. The Obsidian War annihilated Emaxus, and Vivrah's defeat shook the multiverse to its foundations. But from his death, the Pantheon of Emaxus was born.
And so, now is the current Age. Following the Reshaping, the banishing of the Betrayer Gods, the heights of the Age of Rebirth, the near-apocalypse of the Calamity, and the silence of the Divergence, Emaxus is within the Age of Extant, where mortals are left to choose their own path in a world where the gods are in exile.
As far as common belief goes of creation, almost nothing is known pre-Reshaping/pre-Obsidian War. Common knowledge holds that the Calamity was ground-zero for a new beginning for mortals, when the gods finally trusted (or abandoned, depending on the perspective) mortals to be masters of their own fates.
Principal Geography & Features
There are two moons, one which is much larger and whole, while the other is further away and decimated. This leads to seas that can be devastatingly treacherous depending on the time of year and region.
Initial Active Setting
My initial point of scale and worldbuilding is Iotura. From there, I hope to flesh out Aitreas and the isles of Aasveig.
