The Forgotten Behemoth Building / Landmark in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

The Forgotten Behemoth

Far to the north of Yathra Silthame and Demtodhir, hundreds of miles into the Valbourg Woods, there is an ancient relic from before the Reckoning. Towering hundreds of feet above the surrounding forests, a monolithic construct of metal looms, wreathed in vines and choked with rust. Dubbed "the Forgotten Behemoth," this titanic artifact is believed to have once been a towering war machine, created by the magically-advanced civilizations of the Age of Rebirth.    Though only three hundred feet or so of the Behemoth is above ground, it is believed that its full height was between five and six hundred feet. It seems to have been constructed in a humanoid fashion, not unlike the synthomota the Imperium created recently, but scaled up to be the size of a small mountain.    The Behemoth is largely made of steel and titanium, but its joints and such are made from a strange liquid-metal that is unknown today. The chest cavity is open to the elements now, sundered by a large gash from an unknown battle. Within the cavernous interior, there are the shattered remains of an unbelievably advanced arcano-core, which likely powered the monstrosity. Whether the Behemoth was intended for warfare or not is unknown, but it is believed to have met its end battling a god(s).

A Relic of a Grander Age

The Age of Rebirth, while not flawless, did have several advantages over the Age of Extant: the gods weren't dead and the lunar-arcane hadn't been sundered and weakened by the Reckoning, among other things. The heights of the Age of Rebirth were nearly unimaginable to the modern Age of Extant: flying cities, unlimited arcane potential, and divine power unbridled. The Forgotten Behemoth is just one reminder of what was lost, among others -- and a warning of the consequences such unchecked power can have.
