Iceborn

Credits to u/talexior for the awesome cover art!
With greyish skin created from the ash of flame mixed with the snow of Laithna and the lighting of Isael in their veins, Iceborn were made to be natural athletes and fierce warriors. Isael's storm crackles more fiercely in Iceborn than in any other mortal race, driving many to seek honor and glory in adventure or feats of strength and combat. Behind this roaring veneer, Iceborn have rich heritage, strong ties to their clans, and a lust to live deep and suck the marrow of life.
The flavor text below refers largely to non-Isathran Iceborn. If you want to play an Isathran Iceborn, they have some of the same core beliefs -- clan loyalty, athleticism, etc. -- but taken to the extreme of living in the Afterlife of Battle.

Clans and Tribes

Iceborn, before anything else, care about their family and their clan/tribe. Whether this is the clan they were born into, their found family, or the organization they pledge their loyalty to, Iceborn are some of the most compassionate and fiercely-loving people in Yophas. Their care can be harsh, as they seek to drive themselves and those they love to be better every day, but they are nothing if not loyal to a fault.   In Iceborn clans, this fierce loyalty creates unbelievably tight-knit societies with an egalitarian will to bring everyone up. Iceborn hold the phrase "a rising tide lifts all boats" very closely to heart.

Driven Competitors

Iceborn carry Isael's lightning in their veins. They strive endlessly towards bigger and better glories, for in these triumphs they find themselves and consider themselves worthy. Whether it's to impress themselves, their loved ones, or the gods, Iceborn constantly push themselves to more and more difficult feats.   This dedication to competition has a dark side. Iceborn are ferocious competitors, but above all else they are driven to outdo their past efforts. If an Iceborn slays a dragon, they might seek out a larger, more powerful wyrm to battle. Few Iceborn adventurers reach old age, as most die attempting to surpass their past accomplishments.

Fair Play

For Iceborn, competition exists only when it is supported by a level playing field. Competition measures talent, dedication, and effort. Those factors determine true improvement, not reliance on magic items, money, or other elements that can tip the balance one way or the other. Iceborn happily rely on such benefits, but they are careful to remember that such an advantage can always be lost. An Iceborn who relies too much on them can grow complacent, an act akin to death to Iceborn.   This trait manifests most strongly when Iceborn interact with other folk. The relationship between peasants and nobles puzzles Iceborn. If a king lacks the intelligence or leadership to lead, then clearly the most talented person in the kingdom should take their place. Iceborn rarely keep such opinions to themselves, and mock folk who rely on society’s structures or rules to maintain power.

Constant Improvement

Among Iceborn, adults are expected to constantly seek self-improvement. While breaks and rests are understood as essential, an Iceborn with a penchant for laziness or complacency is frowned upon at best and exiled at worst.   How extreme this drive for improvement is varies in different tribes and families. Most have moved away from a suicidal determination to improve, seeing wisdom in elders and in intelligence; however, some have not, and continue to push towards ever-growing peaks of physical skill in a desperate attempt to claim ever-further glories.   In some ways, this drive to outdo themselves feeds into the grim inevitability of their decline and death. These Iceborn would much rather die in battle, at the peak of strength and skill, than endure the slow decay of old age. Even those Iceborn who have left these tribes grapple with the urge to give up their lives as their physical skills decay.   Because of this risk-taking, these Iceborn tribes suffer from a chronic lack of the experience offered by long- term leaders. They hope for innate wisdom in their leadership, for they can rarely count on a wisdom grown with age. These factors typically lead to these more harsh Iceborn tribes continuing to decline.

Iceborn Names/Ethnicities

Every Iceborn has three names: a birth name assigned by the newborn’s mother and father, a nickname assigned by the tribal chief, and a family or clan name. A birth name is up to three syllables long. Clan names are five syllables or more and end in a vowel.   Birth names are rarely linked to gender. Iceborn see females and males as equal in all things, and they find societies with roles divided by gender to be puzzling or worthy of mockery. To an Iceborn, the person who is best at a job should be the one tasked with doing it.   An Iceborn’s nickname is a description that can change on the whim of a chieftain or tribal elder. It refers to a notable deed, either a success or failure, committed by the Iceborn. Iceborn assign and use nicknames with their friends of other races, and change them to refer to an individual’s notable deeds.   Iceborn present all three names when identifying themselves, in the order of birth name, nickname, and clan name. In casual conversation, they use their nickname.   Birth Names: Aukan, Eglath, Gae-Al, Gauthak, Ilikan, Keothi, Kuori, Lo-Kag, Manneo, Maveith, Nalla, Orilo, Paavu, Pethani, Thalai, Thotham, Uthal, Vaunea, Vimak   Nicknames: Bearkiller, Dawncaller, Fearless, Flintfinder, Horncarver, Keeneye, Lonehunter, Longleaper, Rootsmasher, Skywatcher, Steadyhand, Threadtwister, Twice-Orphaned, Twistedlimb, Wordpainter   Clan Names: Anakalathai, Elanithino, Gathakanathi, Kalagiano, Katho-Olavi, Kolae-Gileana, Ogolakanu, Thuliaga, Thunukalathi, Vaimei-Laga   You can also have an Iceborn who has been influenced by a certain culture and their naming conventions. If you wish to play an Iceborn of a certain culture, you can refer to the Cultures/Ethnicities subcategory of Races. Below are the main ones that Iceborn tend to be from/belong to.

Creation Mythos

Iceborn were created when Kaedo took the ancient snow of Laithna and infused it with the Flame of Life, gifting these first proto-Iceborn to Isael as a warrior race for her Fields of Glory. There, she granted them the blessings of lightning and strength. Those Iceborn tribes that still call Isathra their home know much of their ancient, divine heritage and carry it with pride. Most other Iceborn have forgotten. Thankfully, Iceborn never received the treatment orcs did on account of most of their fighting taking place in Isathra itself. Thus, any bad reputation Ragebound Iceborn could have had never truly disseminated.
