Empyrean, the Broken Myth in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Empyrean, the Broken

"Yamma abandoned me. I will destroy everything he loves, even if it kills me."

Empyrean, right hand of the Silver Dawn and Solar of Justice, was the first of the Children of Yamma's champions to arrive at the Battle of Yathra Silthame in the earliest days of the Reckoning. And it was Empyrean who faced the full might of the Obsidian Lords. His body was broken by Narvox and his mind was rent by Xael. When the smoke cleared after the battle, Yamma looked on Empyrean with sadness, for he knew his champion could never truly die, but could also never recover from what had happened.   In what some consider to be Yamma's greatest mistake, he imprisoned Empyrean deep beneath Iotura, binding him in darkness with divine shackles, for he saw within Empyrean raw, chaotic rage and unbridled fury. For centuries, the Broken Solar has been trapped, mumbling quietly to himself and sometimes sitting for decades in deafening silence. On occasion, the tortured immortal's dreams reach the minds of those who live on the surface far above him, where he often attempts to recall his past glories and triumphs, from before he was shattered.

Appearance

Empyrean has the body of a solar, with dark skin and rippling muscles covered with jagged scars across his entire form. What remains of his once elegant, divine robes are tattered, stained, and scorched, his hood and robes clinging to his head and body to hide his scarred body. His wings are tattered and blackened, becoming like bat wings. His once golden eyes are now like an eclipsed sun, with black irises framed by golden-red coronae.   When he appears in dreams, people say that his head is framed by a corona of flame, like a ringed eclipse. They say that these are the remnants of his divine crown, the ancient mantle of his position as the Solar of Justice, and that they continue to smolder like the hate within Empyrean's heart.

Broken Flame

Empyrean was shattered so wholly by the Obsidian Lords that he will likely never recover. His mind and body are broken and he is an engine of pure madness---the smoldering, perverted embers of hate left behind by a flame of hope.

Champions of Empyrean

Empyrean's "champions" are few and far between. In fact, many people who are empowered---and later corrupted---by the Broken Solar are devotees of Yamma who unwittingly swear oaths and pacts with Empyrean, despite believing it is their god. Often, Empyrean will feign as a divine champion of Yamma and guide the "champion" to grow stronger, keeping his true identity hidden until it is too late: the devotee of Yamma has already shared in enough of Empyrean's power and torment to separate themselves from him.
