Broodmother's Fangs

Credits to Mircea Nicula for the awesome cover art!
When the Siege of Yathra Silthame sparked the Reckoning, tales were told of a drow warrior who could pick off commanders and captains from hundreds of feet away. Even if the lethal shots didn't eliminate their victim immediately, the vile poison coating every shot from this sniper would kill them, melting their innards like a spider's venom. Broodmother's Fangs was wielded by one Kalanaun Ossana, one of the greatest archers to fight during the Reckoning. They were a devoted assassin and warrior of Ix'kythael, and served her in countless battles across Emaxus.   It was during the battle that lead to the creation of the Arakhor Tathra that Kalanaun was slain, and the Broodmother's Fangs were shunted to an unknown location. The powerful longbow has yet to be found, and has lost much of its power in the centuries since the Reckoning. Should it come into the hands of another skilled archer, the ancient foe-slayer could be reawoken.

The Legend

When the followers of the Obsidian Lords were preparing for the Reckoning, Ix'kythael whispered of a champion with the means to end fights long before her precious swarms could come under threat. So, her followers created the Broodmother's Fangs, a metallic longbow strung with spider silk and imbued with Ix'kythael's lethal venoms. They held trials to see who would be worthy of wielding Ix'kythael's creation, and one hundred drow champions slew one another in ritual combat until Kalanaun Ossana emerged victorious. They claimed Ix'kythael's gifts, and were on the frontlines during the Battle of Yathra Silthame.   Over the course of the countless battles of the Reckoning that occurred in Iotura, Kalanaun slew hundreds, if not thousands, of the followers of the Children of Yamma. Some even claim that a shot from the Broodmother's Fangs felled a planetar of An'liceth, but this has never been confirmed; however, it was when the followers of Ix'kythael met the empire of Camaerith in the region that would soon become the Arakhor Tathra that Kalanaun was at last slain. It is rumored they were turned into a tree by Syluru, and then the Broodmother's Fangs were banished to an unknown location. The bow has yet to be found, and awaits the next champion who (for good or for ill) will lay warriors low from afar once more.

The Remnant

longbow, legendary, requires attunement   A sleek and haunting longbow of black and purple mercurial metal, Broodmother's Fangs is seemingly impervious to damage yet still bends and contorts to the needs of its wielder. Within its time of disuse, the longbow has become dormant.
