Your perform a ceremony to call forth the soul of a dead creature for revival.   The target creature must have been dead no longer than 10 days and the creature's soul must be both willing and at liberty to rejoin the body.   This magic fashions a new body for the creature to inhabit, but you do need to have access to at least some of their remains, even something as small as a finger, or as unrecognizable such as their ashes.   Up to three creatures (including yourself) can pay tribute to the deceased in the hopes of improving the likelihood of the soul's return.   Participating in the Ceremony. Each creature paying tribute makes an Ability Check with a skill deemed appropriate by the GM based on their tribute. A tribute might be anything from kind words, to valuable material offerings. The baseline DC of the Ability Check is 15, but the GM might lower this DC by 5 for a particularly sentimental or valuable tribute.   Revival Check At the end of the ceremony, you touch the dead creature and make a special check, rolling a d20 with no Modifier. The baseline DC for this check is 8, but it is modified in the following ways:

  • The DC is increased by 1 for each failed tribute Ability Check during the ceremony.
  • The DC is increased by 1 for each soul scar the creature has.
  • The DC is reduced by 3 for successful tribute Ability Check during the ceremony.
On a successful revival check, the creature returns to life in a new body with all its hit points restored, no levels of exhaustion, and any unspent mana it had when died. The newly created body is randomly fashioned, which likely causes the creature's species to change. Roll a d100 and consult the Reincarnation table to determine what form the creature takes when restored to life.   The reincarnated creature recalls its former life and experiences. It retains the capabilities it had in its original form, except it exchanges its original species for the new one and changes its species traits accordingly.   Regardless of whether the revival check succeeds or fails, the creature also gains a soul scar.
