A morphling emerges as a rare product of a druidic reincarnation ritual. While the vast majority of attempts to reincarnate a deceased individual produce a normalized outcome, creating a body that matches one of the many races that populate the multiverse. In rare circumstances, no definitive body is created, and instead an amalgamation of all possibilities is compressed into a singular form, this is a morphling.
Physical Characteristics
While morphlings can look like anyone, they do have a true form. Their skin tone is always pale, either white or light gray. They have large colorless eyes circled by thick black rings. Their hair color is most commonly a light shade of silver followed by platinum and blonde. In rarer cases, their hair can be pale shades of green, pink, and blue. Similar to elves, changelings lack body and facial hair.
Most morphlings are rarely seen in their true form and prefer to adopt all kinds of humanoid shapes, with some preferring to simply mimic an idealized version of their own appearance prior to becoming a changeling. When a creature is resurrected as a morphling, it's basic biological traits adapt to match this new form. As such, a human may be granted a much longer lifespan after being resurrected in this way, while an elf may find its lifespan shortened considerably.
Homelands
Human lands are usually in flux, with new ideas, social changes, innovations, and new leaders constantly coming to the fore. Members of longer-lived races find human culture exciting but eventually a little wearying or even bewildering. Even where individual humans are conservative traditionalists, human institutions change with the generations, adapting and evolving faster than parallel institutions among longer lived species.
Religion
Unlike the other dominant humanoid species, humans do not have a chief racial deity. Some humans are the most ardent and zealous adherents of a given religion, while others are the most impious people around.
Names
Humans have no typical naming conventions, and names vary greatly. Many parents give names that are linked to their region's culture, or draw inspiration from the naming traditions of their ancestors. Some humans simply give their children names that sound appealing, choosing words from other languages such as Dwarvish or Elvish.
Morphling Traits
As a morphling character, you have the following traits:
Size. Your size is Medium.
Speed. You have a base walking speed of 30 feet.
Morph. You can spend 1 minute to change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change.
You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait. You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a
short or long rest.
Morphling Instincts. You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Insight, Intimidation, and Persuasion.
