Onomuk Mountains

The Onomuk Mountains are the main range of mountains in Daendar, comprising a large portion of the southeastern region. The mountain range spans from the border with Tsrach (with some of the foothills and lowlands spanning into Tsrach) over to the coast of the Siblin Sea. The highest peak in the Onomuk range, Mount Iba, rises approximately 4,000m above sea level and it is located within the eastern reaches of the range.   Much of the Onomuk Mountain range is uninhabited, occupied only by those creates who can find living space along crumbling cliffs and fragmented slopes or else among the fierce competition of the valleys, mesas, and plateaus that also feature throughout the range. Though some mining operations (or foolhardy individuals) have explored some of the more remote reaches of the range, much of what is uninhabited has never been visited by any "citizens" of Elotia (at least none who lived to tell of it).   Within the range, there are several pockets of civilisation owing to the creation of mining towns, natural resource hubs, transport stations, and several religious settlements. The majority of these towns and villages are connected to one another by "The Loom", a collection of rope, wire, and pulley systems that have created a web of aerial transportation throughout the mountain ranges. Those wishing to travel via the Loom must secure permission from a governing authority and they must acquire a fly shuttle, which is used to travel along the Loom. Maintenance of this system is a significant industry in Daendar and any accidents associated with the Loom deteriorating or an individual injuring themselves on their journey are taken extremely seriously. While forms of public transportation on the Loom do exist, they use alternative loom ropes compared to standard travelling wires, to prevent significant issues due to elevated traffic.   The main settlements in the Onomuk Mountains are Yoxia, Quan, Bulri, Chuul, and Niswy. The largest, Yoxia, is on a large plateau within the Onomuk range and features three large peaks in it's immediate vicinity, which the city has slowly started to build up into. Outside of the Loom, travel between these villages is extremely difficult and only undertaken in dire circumstances. Roads which used to exist between the cities have fallen into extreme disuse due to the Loom, and in some cases, whole sections have collapsed due to geological movement. The primary of these roads, The Urob Pass, sees enough traffic to be maintained only by the nature of constant travel and temporary fixes. The government of Daendar, due to the frequent turnover of the Dakuko, does not see the Pass as a priority especially because internal trade (and trade with the capital and several outlying merchant settlements) is enough to maintain the economy of Daendar.   The stone of the Onomuk Mountains is rich with ore and other valuable minerals, though societal values within Daendar have begun to shift away from resource production and toward expanding into artistic industries. As such, certain minerals found in the mountains which were previously considered scrap have found new and renewed use, leading to the establishment of new mines which reach into the refuse piles of previous mining operations. However, all mines within Onomuk are limited in their overall construction: many of the existing mountain tunnels that were not made by citizens of Daendar are home to elementals or other beings which fiercely protect their space. Additionally, below a certain level within the mountains, there are complex stone layers which can only be mined with powerful magic and which are not well understood, despite many years of study. As such, when such a layer is exposed, most mining operations actually close off the end of those shafts and change the trajectory of other pathways to avoid these rock surfaces.   The climate within the Onomuk Mountains is fair and consistent, usually consisting of a cool autumn, a cold yet wet winter, a hot spring, and an average summer. In terms of precipitation, many of the taller peaks of the range receive snow in the winter, autumn, and fall, though only Mount Iba and a few others maintain their snow all year round. In the villages within the mountains, torrential rainfalls are common during the spring while strong wind gusts rule the rest of the eoch. The western foothills of the Onomuk range also regularly receive flooding rains, while the eastern side often sees short but intense rain showers. Unlike the Neol Strait and the Strait of Aloc, the Siblin Sea is not known for its intense weather storms.   While the western reaches of the range slowly descend into rolling hills, the eastern and southern stretches of the range feature tall cliffs and a slow erosion which has caused at least one minor peak to collapse into the Siblin Sea within recent memory. This collapse actually led to the complete destruction of Klyip, which fell into the sea. On the northern front, the range extends (in terms of rolling hills and crags) nearly out to Lake Daem. On the southern side, there is a complex water cave system, called the Hashibor Range, that has eroded into the range over time due to the flow of oceanic waters. These caves are below the stone line often encountered in many of the major cities and they are known to contain lucrative gem veins and other enticing finds. However, these caves are subject to tidal flows are multiple pinch points would either completely segregate cave systems from one another during high tide or be completely unreachable during low tide. Several efforts have been made in the past (even spanning multiple Dakuko terms in a row) to create a sluice system which could eliminate these barriers, but even magical means have proved ineffective at preventing the tidal flows of the Siblin Sea.
