Common Etiquette Rules

Human societies are very organized, and positions of power or status are to be respected. Even treating a noble or a king like an equal can mean death in some societies.   Honor is very important for humans, and a person can go at great lengths to get revenge if they feel they have been dishonored by others.   Human societies can be bureaucratic and sometimes their politics and law systems can be quite complicated. Some human societies are known to require identification and registry from travelers who intend to enter their territories, and a wise traveler should always take caution to learn the laws and customs of each place they visit, as they can be quite varied even across nearby cities.

Common Dress Code

In a civilized society, people dress conforming to their status. Therefore, a badly dressed adventurer might, for example, be denied entry in the noble's quarters of a city.   People invited to parties are expected to dress according to the occasion, as respect for the host. The same way, people visiting courts or palaces are expected to dress in fancy specially prepared clothing.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Humans have a huge influence across the board in cultural aspects: not only their history is long and eventful, humans made huge contributions to poetry, song, fiction, natural studies, spellcraft and technology. Humans have travelled all over the world and met all sorts of different races, influencing them and being influenced themselves as a result.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Humans sometimes organize festivals during special or historic dates. It's common in such dates to see celebrations across human towns with a great abundance of food and entertainment.

Common Taboos

The humans always honor their dead, which are usually either buried or burned in a pyre. Humans find extremely disrespectful to leave loved ones who died to be consumed by the environment, especially since sometimes these can return as undead. More than all races, humans hate necromancy.   While humans are a warmongering race, some common standards are expected in matters of war: a declaration of war should be issued whenever a nation decides to transform another into an enemy. Diplomats even from enemy states should be respected and not killed. Not doing so is considered not only disrespectful, but is sure to bring ill-luck to the offenders, or so the humans believe.

History

Humans were created by Tyr, being the second race to be created in Elmincia. Humans quickly became the most populous race, and throughout history, they sometimes have played the rule of mediators and peacekeepers, and sometimes of warmongers. Human history is filled with war and suffering.   Notwithstanding, the human race is a founding member of the Free People Alliance, and humans have a representation in the council that decides the questions of peace and war in Elmincia. Humans are also the most numerous in both the The Church of Light and Adventurers Guild, which has given along the history tremendous power to the race to guide the fate of Elmincia itself.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Humans tend to relate themselves well to every other race. Their relationships with elves are sometimes could, but in general not unfriendly. Humans can get along with orcs and half-orcs as long as they are not in open war.   In general, each human society has local allies and enemies, and not the race as a whole. As such, it's difficult for humans to have a sense of belonging to a race as the elves and dwarves do, as sometimes humans can relate better to the dwarves that live next door than to the other humans who live half a world away.
