At the behest of the king, four adventurers ally together and set forth from the Kingdom of Vasera, in hopes of finding the wizard Matreous and that he may hold the key for relieving a 50-year drought.
A ROYAL PLEA
In the year 845, the Kingdom of Vasera had been plagued by an extreme drought, spanning over fifty years. In a move of desperation, the crown began to seek out powerful magic users from around Elloria that may have the ability to remedy the intense drought. The crown became aware of a wizard from Talevir named Matreous that was rumored to have the skill or knowledge required to help alleviate Vasera's plight.
The King put out an immediate call for aid from adventurers in the hopes of finding and bringing this Matreous to Vasera. In one way or another, each of the following members of the party answered the summons for adventurers: Duane da Bounty Hunter, Erdo Dontu, Shep Howard, and Denny. Be it for duty, gold or an innate desire for the hunt, the party assembled, ready for the voyage to Talevir.
TO CANDLEKEEP
Acting on the Crown's latest information, the party sailed to Candlekeep along the eastern coast of nearby Talevir. To enter Candlekeep, the party had been granted the King's late father's private journal to present to the Avowed of Candlekeep.
Once in Candlekeep, the party wasted no time in asking around for Matreous. With the help of the Avowed named Littleone, the party learned that Matreous had been studying Extradimensional Spaces and had last been seen with the works of the Mage Fistandia. The party was ushered to Matreous' last known location. The study room was clean and tidy save for one book left out in the open: The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces. The party leafed through the pages of the book and found curious writings scribbled in the margins. Denny spoke one of the words out loud, which triggered a flash of light and the appearance of a large doorway, open and inviting...
INTO THE UNKNOWN
So of course, the party investigated. Directly through the floating doorway, the party found themselves transported into a hallway of some kind of home, with a hassled Sage, Matreous, crouched over a book of notes and scribbles. The party quickly ascertained that this was their quandary and implored him to return to Vasera with them. After a curt refusal, Duane da Bounty Hunter moved in, ready to arrest and detain Matreous...
Matreous had other ideas, he readied an attack in defense. If not for the deft and quick diplomatic counter from Erdo Dontu, the party may have come into combat with the very wizard they meant to ask a great favor from. Matreous agreed to join the party to Vasera, departing the next day, on the condition that the adventurers help him explore the extradimensional space.
Matreous left the hallway through the same doors that the party entered, in order to contact the Lord's Alliance in Stagshead. Duane and Denny accompanied him through the doors back to Candlekeep. However, as Erdo and Shep moved to get to the doorway, it sealed shut!
Meanwhile, a figurine in Matreous' pocked sprang to life! The stone form became an imp, flying around and immediately attacking Duane, Denny and Matreous himself. The three were eventually able to kill the creature, but not before it mortally wounded Matreous.
As Erdo and Shep were stuck in the Extradimensional Space, they started scouting, looking for a way out. Soon, Duane and Denny opened the doors once more with a new key word from Fistandia's notes. They stepped in and found Erdo and Shep not too far in. The party rushed back to the doors, but the distance was too great and the doors shut before the party could return to Candlekeep.
STUCK
The party then spent the better part of four or five hours stuck within what appeared to be a mansion of some kind. The party found that in various rooms, there were copies of The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces with different letters inscribed on their spine. As they adventured from room to room, they triggered traps, fought animated furniture, a living broom, some animated swords, and some experimental creatures.
The mansion seemed to be the home of some mage, perhaps Fistandia herself. The party continued exploring through every room of the mansion, collecting the various copies of the Joy of Extradimensional Space all with different letters.
After hours of some harrowing battles with a bookshelf and a broom, the party had seven copies of the Joy of Extradimensional Spaces. The letters on the spine, Erdo noted, spelled out "Liberty." They ran to the front door and said "Liberty," causing the front doors to swing open and two mages step in...
FISTANDIA
The two mages were allegedly Fistandia and their partner Freyt. The two were alarmed to find intruders in their home. The party's attempts to explain the accidental nature of their presence, but it was not enough. Freyt and Fistandia attacked the party. Ultimately, the party defeats both wizards. Erdo, not intending to murder anybody, provides a healing potion to Fistandia and leaves a note for her upon her restoration that details where exactly she could find him in the future to make things right.
