The Order of Ducain
When Firebrand, Patriarch of the Seated Red Clan killed Motarion and Sehkma, Patriarch and Matriarch of the seated Green and Bronze Clans and brought about the collapse of the Council of Wyrms, the Dragon Riders of the Dagan Isles were approached by both sides to join the ensuing war. At that time, the order refused, but the order was split. Many aligned in the thinking that the order of the riders was meant to serve the Council, the bipartisan entity that governed all dragon and Dragon Kind and therefore should not choose a side, while a vocal minority argued that Firebrand had broken the council and must be held responsible. The majority won out and the order went into a deep isolation, refusing to participate in the war, but the minority would not sit idly by.
The Order of Ducain was the vocal minority that split from the Dragon Riders of the Isles in order to seek retribution against Firebrand and his conspirators that broke the Council of Wyrms and plunged the world into turmoil. The order would come to name itself after the dragon that led the schizm. They found common cause with the High King of Amysthine at the time and together, fought the defectors wherever they could find them. After the war, they knew they would not be welcomed back in their anscestral home, but they did not much care, they had bright new prospects in the Lordstone's Lands.
Composition
Manpower
At it's inception, the Order of Ducain cmprised of a third of the ranks of the Dragon Riders who defected alongside the Brass Dragon Ducain. In more recent years, many of the order's descendants do not have anyone capable of mounting a dragon, passing down their heirloom weapon and a mounted horseback style unlike any other. Those who still mount up on dragons are few, less than a hundred riders in total, but the order has expanded for that reason to include their horse-mounted cavalry.
Equipment
The order maintains a higher level of quality to their equipment, thanks to their origins amongst the Dagan Isles. Since many of their draconic mounts have died, many members of the order wear suits of scale mail and wield spears and swords fashioned from the deceased dragons. Whether it was an intentional choice or not, the order strikes a rather imposing visage in northern Amysthine thanks to the scales and bones of Dragons that adorne their mounted knights.
Structure
For the families who claim descent, or membership to the Order of Ducain that yet ride upon dragons, they hold a stronger hold and carry a great deal more prestige within the order. These Dragon Riders serve as elders and commanders of the order's forces in times of war, while those families who no longer have a dragon to mount serve as lieutenants.
Tactics
A common tactic of the Order is to send a full charge of their cavalry with areal support from their Dragon Rider commanders. The Rider will unleash their breath weapons, helping to disrupt and break the enemy formation so that their charging cavalry have a weak point to break through on the first try. Otherwise, the Riders do not often see combat on the front lines as the scarcit of dragons within the order has caused the order, as a whole, to be more hesitant in engaging in head on confrontations without a great deal of support.
