Pelor

Pelor (also known as The Dawnfather, The Sunlord, The Time Keeper) is one of the Nine Lights in the Pantheon of Albae . God of the sun and summer, Pelor is the keeper of time. He supports those in need and opposes all that is evil. As the lord of agriculture and the bountiful harvest, he is the deity most commonly worshiped by ordinary folk throughout Longreech (other than the Hero), and his priests are well received wherever they go. Paladins and rangers are found among his worshipers.   His symbol is an eight pointed star sometimes depicted with a sun-in-splender in its center. Like most deified beings, Pelors true form is either forgotten or unknown, but he is most often depicted as an older human male in simple white robes. In other, more martial tales he is portayed in brilliant golden plate armour with his head obsured by pure light.   Pelor originates from the Celestial Dominions (According to the World Network model of cosmology) within a plane known as The Blessed Fields of Elysium

The War of the Divine

During the time of the Rupture, in the Dark years, Pelor lead the armies of the Divine Confederacy through the Rupture to bring order and balance to the “New” plane of Elendor. However he didn’t originally advocate for war. Pelors son and top general Lathander Was the one who convinced Pelor and the other Celestials to take action. After a unanimous vote from the Celestials, Celestian opened a doorway between the Upper Planes and Pelor road through the breach at the apex of the army in his Chariot.   It is estimated the armies of the Divine Confederacy intervened in the Plane of Elendor around the year 10,000 B.S. but records from years before the Summit are few and far between - most starting around 3000 B.S.   Some noteworthy moments for Pelor in the War of the Divine include:
  1. The Battle of the Saltbeach - Pelor lead his army in a clash against Asmodeus’ forces where he and actually managed to banish Asmodeus for a time. This Battle gave the forces of the Divine Confederacy a major foothold in the East of the continent of Dostrus (This area today would be roughly within the Planes of Nardethel).
  2. The Battle of the Thell - The only battle to take place in during the Divine Controversy where a faction lead by Pelors own son Zarus wished to begin purifying the mortal serfs of the enemy armies, such as the "beast-like" Orcs, to make room for the more deserving mortals such as, and most vocally, the Humans. In the battles outcome, Zarus dueled Lathander with Lathander winning against his Older Brother and horrifically scarring his face. Pelor then stripped him of his Generalship and banished him from the Divine Confederacy.
  3. The Fields of the Broken - The final battle in the War of the Heavens in which Pelor and the rest of the Divine Confederacy as well as the Hero pushed back all of the other force and became the Dominant force in the world, Forcing the events of the Summit and shaping the world as we know it today.

The Hero Mythos

Pelor was well aware of the Prophecy of Valor - The Story of a Mortal Hero that would rise to gain freedom for Mortality, So when news of someone matching the description of this person of prophecy, Pelor sent Lathander to meet them. Upon confirming this, the Divine Confederacy backed the Hero entirely and made them a great general of their armies.

The Nine Lights

Pelor, sans the King-That-Never-Was, Is the head of the Pantheon of Albae and thus one of the approved deities in any of the Hero worshiping Pantheons. The Gods Bargain, or the result of the Summit is maintained mainly by Pelor and the Hero. Because of his position and stature, Pelor is often seen as the God of all Gods to those who worship the Faiths of the Hero.

Family

Pelor is married to the Lesser-Diety Brala, with whom he sired two sons and one daughter: Zarus, Lathander and Caphriel. Two of Pelor's children Lathander and Caphriel also serve as members of the Nine Lights. Following the Divine Controversy Pelor no longer has contact with his eldest child Zarus. Other demi-gods and god are often related to Pelor but as with most of the divine, the source material is hersay at best.
