Thagne Aethelwine of Linley (a.k.a. "The Tick")

Aethelwine “The Tick” is the current Thagne of Linley, The north most region within the Cullis Marshlands.

Personal history

Aethelwine of Linley is the 11th Thagne of Linley. He is the son of Aethilwald the Thatcher and a Lourdilliesian Princess by the name of Johanne. Aethelwine is the only child of the couple.
Growing Aethelwine was spoiled by his mother Johanne, which combined with his familial wealth and noble stock, developed ideals of grandeur within the boy far beyond his station. As such Aethelwine developed a very short temper when thing don't go his way. Futhermore he is very vindictive. A prime example of this was when a local merchants daughter denied him, he had lied to his mother and said the girl struck him without provocation. His mother proceeded to have the girl arrested, who was then beaten, tarred and feathered. When the girls father went to the Thagne for help, claiming that Aethelwine had lied, Aethilwald had the girl and the merchant hanged to save face. The hanging was the last known case of the hanging within the The Burg of Brexley
Aethelwine's nickname "The Tick" comes from his hopeless craven attitude towards his superiors, often resorting to begging them to involve him in social events. If a superior was to put Aethelwine down, he would grovel and back down, but who knows what vengeance he secretly plots behind closed doors.
Aethelwine became Thagne at the age of 20, when his father passed away after a bout of sever food poisoning. Some claim that those circumstances were suspicious, as Aethilwald had otherwise been in perfect health and yet the court cleric apparently could not save the late Thagne.

Education

As a boy Aethelwine was the student of many tutors, all of which the boy fell out with. As such his knowledge of stewarding a realm is more than lack luster. He does however, have a mind for military action and martial deeds, but his cruel tendencies often lead him to make brash decisions which often result in failure.

Aethelwine has familial ties to the Kingdom of Lourdiellies on his Mothers side. The Current King of Lourdiellies is his Cousin.
