Eserae

Eserae is a small agricultural town in the southern grasslands of Gaen that has been annexed by the Kingdom of Erdantia.   While all of Gaen is now under Erdantia control, Eserae was annexed far before the takeover of any other territory. This was due to the actions of Lena Arkwright, as well as various other operatives of the Order of Erdantia. This annexation would go on to start the War of Eserae, a conflict that ravaged most of Orlend, as well as the rest of the world. In this conflict, it was reclaimed by Gaen momentarily, but was then recaptured.

Demographics

The town is largely split between those of the original inhabitants of Eserae that were allowed to remain living there, and the people that came from the Kingdom of Erdantia. These two groups often come to friction, with the law that if the town has no available living space, then the original inhabitants must be prepared to leave to make room for citizens of Erdantia, as well as the law that citizens of Erdantia get priority to food commodities in a famine, or any commodity that is in shortage, for that matter.

Government

The town is run by Lady Cada Timma, who was put in power shortly after the town's annexation. Caden is the daughter of Marc Timma, the lord of the City of Renn, a thriving port town on the southern coast of the the Peninsula of Erdantia and the former capital of Erdantia.

Defences

The town has a wall of four metres in height surrounding it, with a single gate facing north-west. The town has three watchtowers, equally spaced around the wall. The town has a barracks which sits directly next to the gate. The local guard make patrols around the edge of the Lord's land, most often the quarry and the edges of the forest.

Industry & Trade

The town exports grain, largely to the city-state of Silnear, which has no farmland of its own, relying mostly on Erdantia to provide food. Another large part of its industry is military, with Eserae a key fortification protecting the south of Eserae.

Infrastructure

The town has well-kept roads and a mill outside, which provides flour to the inhabitants of the town.

Guilds and Factions

A small rebel group exists that protests against the annexation of Eserae, although its numbers are small due to the fact that citizens of Gaen are being constantly deported to make room for new immigrants from Erdantia. The rebels generally use violent tactics, often assaulting people from Erdantia.

History

The town was set up by Thomas Orvat, a lord that had been given the land by the king of Gaen as a farming village in 486. In 1588, Lena Arkwright, and five other operatives of the Order of Erdantia infiltrated Eserae. At the time, some orcs from Syndal sought to overthrow the local lord and establish an outpost by taking the lord's daughter hostage and then expel the lord. After confronting them about this, Lena agreed to join them, but when the lord and his servants were sent out of the palace, four operatives of the Order came in, seizing control from them. the King of Thorn then sent in a new lord, Caden Timma, as well as new guards. Anyone who knew of Lena Arkwright or the other operatives were executed shortly afterwards in order to preserve the operatives' identities.

Geography

Eserae sits in an area of flat grasslands at the south of Gaen, with an oak forest located about two kilometres to the west. Its closest other settlement is Allersa.

Natural Resources

The surrounding land has quite fertile fields, and the nearby forest is full of wood and animals. A quarry sits to the north.
