Drago Castle

Drago castle, situated in the city of the same name, capital of the Kingdom of Erdantia, is the residence of the Erdantian royal family and King of Erdantia, King Ulric Tyler.
The castle sits on the northern side of the city, lying in the Royal Quarter, a Royal Peculiar of Erdantia (a royal peculiar is an area of land, as small as a room or as large as a quarter, owned directly by the King himself rather than by a lord, but still within a lord's land and subject to its laws).

Purpose / Function

Drago Castle exists as both the primary residence for the King of Erdantia and his family, as well as housing the Erdantian Royal Court while it is in session. It also serves as a key defensive point for Drago, and exists to ensure it remains safe in the event of a siege. Several key individuals in and around the city are also designated to take shelter in the castle during an attack, including the Erdantian Parliament, the Lord of Drago, the Grandmasters of each Knightly Order, and any holding lords that might be in the area by chance.

Denizens

Drago Castle is home to King Ulric Tyler, as well as most of the rest of the Erdantian Royal Family. It also houses the New Guard, formally known as the Drago Royal Guard. It also serves as a temporary point of residence for any important individuals passing through, such as officials, lords, and military officers.

Architecture

Drago Castle takes the structure of a concentric castle, with the innermost wall housing the most important functions (such as residence for the King) rather than a designated Keep. It has three concentric walls, with a gate positioned on the southern side of each. The walls are disconnected from the main walls of the city, so as not to endanger the castle if the city's main fortifications are captured and to minimize the total entry points for the castle complex. Within the innermost wall sits the barracks for the New Guard, which live and train within the castle walls.

History

After Markus Tyler's decision to move the capital of Erdantia from the City of Renn to Drago in 1449, construction work began on the castle almost immediately, and lasted five years, until 1455, where Markus and the rest of the royal family finally moved in.
The Castle was attacked by Goldenheart rebels in late 1587, in which several castle staff defected to the attackers. This was the first reported use of the Spear of Kineva.
