Wave Shield

Mages who specialize in or study water magic will find this spell invaluable especially when dealing with opponents who favor fire, flaming arrows, or close quarters attacks. It allows you to react immediately, shielding yourself while preparing your next spell or maneuver.
This spell requires very little effort to perform, making it exceptionally fast to cast. When mastered, it can quite literally save your life. The key is timing learning when to cast it so that it intercepts incoming damage at the exact moment of impact.
So practice the motion, refine your reactions, and drill the timing until it becomes instinct. Trust me, my young mages: once you master this spell and its rhythm, it will keep you alive long enough to protect yourself, aid your party, or adapt to whatever situation you find yourself in.
And yes it even works when someone gets angry and starts throwing things at you.

Effect

You conjure a rushing torrent of water shaped into the rough outline of a shield. This watery barrier protects you from a single physical or fire-based attack, granting damage reduction (DR/—) and fire resistance equal to half your caster level (minimum 1) against that attack.
Once the spell has reduced the damage from one attack, it is immediately discharged.

Natural Magic

If you select this spell as one of your natural magics, it grants an additional 1 point of damage reduction per Character level.

Gestures & Ritual

At a sharp motion of your hand, foot, or focus, a surging wave of water rises and crashes into place, guarding the point of impact.
