Mudstone is created by taking swamp mud and reforming it into a dense, clay-like mass, then infusing it with water and earth mana. This process occurs naturally through certain creatures and monsters, but it can also be replicated by skilled mages capable of manipulating both elemental forces.
In nature, creatures with innate earth water affinities compress, shape, and stabilize the mud through instinctive magic such as Bog Titan. Among spellcasters, the process requires either a mage proficient in both elements or multiple casters working in synchronization, using spells that manipulate, bind, or transmute soil while maintaining a careful balance of moisture and structure.
Once the mud has been properly shaped and magically stabilized, it must be heated to complete the transformation. Only a moderate amount of fire mana is required, but the temperature must be sustained at a high enough level for the material to harden. When this threshold is reached, the mass solidifies into true stone, separating cleanly from the surrounding wet clay and swamp water.
