Mudstone

Mudstone is a dense, dark stone formed from mineral-rich material that has been mana-charged and hardened through elemental processes. Highly valued for its durability, resistance, and restorative properties, Mudstone is sought after by witches, mages, alchemists, healers, and craftsmen alike.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Mudstone is a dark brown stone flecked with streaks and specks of silver-gray and muted green throughout its surface.

Geology & Geography

Mudstone can be found naturally or artificially created in any marshland that contains freshwater ponds with high mineral content.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Mudstone Blocks (Construction & Golems)
Mudstone blocks are valued as a durable and reliable building material. Once fully hardened, Mudstone is nearly waterproof; it typically requires prolonged submersion followed by freezing temperatures before any noticeable reaction occurs. Because of this, structures built with Mudstone are highly resistant to erosion, cracking, and water damage, making them ideal for use in wet climates, swamps, and cold regions.   These properties also make Mudstone a favored material in golem construction. Its natural resistance to both water and earth influences allows Mudstone golems to function more efficiently than those made from ordinary stone. When powered by earth or water ley-line crystals, Mudstone-based golems exhibit improved stability, responsiveness, and endurance.
Mudstone Fertilizer
Due to its altered state and mana saturation, Mudstone can be processed into an exceptionally effective fertilizer. Rich in minerals and infused with stabilized elemental energy, it enhances soil quality—especially for plants that absorb large amounts of magical energy. Even in nutrient-poor regions, Mudstone fertilizer creates a dense, mana-rich growing environment, allowing magical flora to thrive where they otherwise could not.
Mudstone Chakra Heat Stones
Mudstone is commonly shaped into smooth stones used in spas, saunas, and healing houses. These stones retain heat extremely well and gradually release both warmth and mineral traces into the body. When placed along major chakra and mana-flow nodes, the heat stones help relax muscles, stimulate the magical network, and restore overall balance.   Such treatments are especially popular in facilities focused on physical recovery, magical exhaustion, and long-term wellness, where the stones are heated and applied in controlled sequences to gently re-energize the body.
Alchemical & Medicinal Uses
Alchemists often grind Mudstone into fine powders or refined fragments for use in potions, salves, and lotions. These preparations are particularly effective for:
  • Skin care and regeneration
  • Pain and inflammation relief
  • Neural and chakra network stabilization
In more advanced treatments, Mudstone-based medicines are used for detoxification, cleansing the blood of physical toxins and, in specialized formulas, purging corrupted mana from the body.

Manufacturing & Products

Mudstone is created by taking swamp mud and reforming it into a dense, clay-like mass, then infusing it with water and earth mana. This process occurs naturally through certain creatures and monsters, but it can also be replicated by skilled mages capable of manipulating both elemental forces.   In nature, creatures with innate earth water affinities compress, shape, and stabilize the mud through instinctive magic such as Bog Titan. Among spellcasters, the process requires either a mage proficient in both elements or multiple casters working in synchronization, using spells that manipulate, bind, or transmute soil while maintaining a careful balance of moisture and structure.   Once the mud has been properly shaped and magically stabilized, it must be heated to complete the transformation. Only a moderate amount of fire mana is required, but the temperature must be sustained at a high enough level for the material to harden. When this threshold is reached, the mass solidifies into true stone, separating cleanly from the surrounding wet clay and swamp water.
