Locate Object

All right, my young mages today we’re learning a practical spell, useful not only for adventuring and professional work, but for everyday life as well.   This spell is Locate Object. And yes, it does exactly what it sounds like: it helps you locate a nearby object, so long as you can form a clear mental image of what you’re searching for. If you want to be specific, you need more than a vague idea you must have seen the object before, studied it directly, or otherwise have real knowledge of what makes it distinct.   So yes, you can use it to track down a legendary weapon or locate a stash of gold… but most of you will end up using it for far more practical problems. Lost keys. A missing pouch. Your belt. That tool you swear you put down “right here.” Even that one sock though, let’s be honest, you probably have too many socks scattered around the house for this spell to save you.   The more detailed you are, the more likely you’ll locate the exact object you want. The more general your description, the more likely the spell will point you toward the nearest matching object instead.   The biggest limitation is simple: the item must be accessible. This spell won’t help you find buried treasure, sealed vaults, hidden compartments, or anything tucked behind barriers that block the spell’s detection. And it certainly won’t find your keys if they’re locked inside a drawer you forgot you even had.

Effect

You sense the direction of a well-known or clearly visualized object. You can search for general items, in which case you locate the nearest of its kind if more than one is within range. Attempting to find a certain item requires a specific and accurate mental image; if the image is not close enough to the actual object, the spell fails. You cannot specify a unique item unless you have observed that particular item firsthand (not through divination). The spell is blocked by even a thin sheet of lead. Creatures cannot be found by this spell. Polymorph any object and nondetection fool it.

Gestures & Ritual
This spell is simple.   First, hold a clear image of the object in your mind. Then press your fingers together and raise your hands into view as you speak the incantation.   If you use a focus tool, trace two small circles in the air like a lens narrowing into clarity then complete the incantation. Your mana will disperse outward in a subtle pulse, seeking the closest match to what you envisioned and guiding your senses toward it.
