Golden World

The Golden World occurs during sunrise or sunset, when sunlight strikes the atmosphere at a low angle. Under rare conditions, light refraction intensifies and interacts with ambient light mana, creating a temporary surge in luminous energy.   Scholars believe the phenomenon happens when sunlight grazes the horizon and triggers a brief hyperactive state in local light mana. Rather than physically altering the world, this surge affects how light is processed by living eyes.   In essence, the environment does not truly become gold—the increased light mana temporarily enhances and shifts color perception, saturating the visual field in warm yellow and amber tones. The effect typically manifests midway through the Golden Hour and may last anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes before fading naturally as mana levels stabilize.

Manifestation

The Golden World occurs during sunrise or sunset, when sunlight strikes the atmosphere at a low angle. Under rare conditions, light refraction intensifies and interacts with ambient light mana, creating a temporary surge in luminous energy.   Scholars believe the phenomenon happens when sunlight grazes the horizon and triggers a brief hyperactive state in local light mana. Effects
  • Enhanced warmth in color perception
  • Softened shadows
  • Increased contrast in gold and amber tones
  • Mild emotional uplift reported by some observers
There are no known harmful effects. In fact, many describe the event as calming or inspiring. Artists often seek it, and some magical academies attempt to record and study it.   Though beautiful, the phenomenon remains poorly understood. Arcane researchers continue to debate whether it is purely atmospheric or partially influenced by localized light mana density.

Localization

The Golden World can occur anywhere in Elema, provided conditions align at sunrise or sunset. It requires:
  • A clear or partially clear horizon
  • Strong atmospheric light scattering
  • Elevated local light mana activity
Some claim it is more common in mountainous regions or near open coastlines, though this remains unconfirmed. The size of the affected area varies sometimes limited to a valley, other times stretching across entire coastal stretches.   Ultimately, the phenomenon depends on the interplay between sunlight, atmospheric conditions, and ambient light mana.   When the moment passes, the world quietly returns to normal leaving behind only memory and wonder.
