Dawnreaver

"Let Sun brun the Evil of Vampire to dust." — Theodore MacYnnes

The Dawnreaver is an amazing weapon made of mithral and fueled by concentrated solar energy, designed to destroy vampires and light-sensitive undead. It was expertly designed by the famed vampire hunter Theodore MacYnnes, who upgraded the early blueprints of the original Solar Swords into something significantly more powerful and long-lasting.

The Dawnreaver, unlike its predecessor, is more than just a weapon; it is a solar-charged power source that can channel the sun's anger into devastating attacks. It is designed to rip through vampire flesh like radiant butter, piercing shadowy adversaries with radiant wrath that remains long after the attack.

These swords have become highly valued weapon among expert monster hunters and renowned adventurers, particularly those tasked with clearing Vampire territories. Though uncommon, Dawnreavers are frequently passed down through monster hunting guilds or created on contract by skilled Black Smith or Hikira/Kasie Pladin.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Dawnreaver channels pure solar energy, slicing through vampires with ease—its radiant edge burning with a pain far more intense than ordinary fire. Against vampires, the blade is especially devastating, dealing double damage, unlike with most other undead.

During the day, the sword passively absorbs sunlight through its hilt, storing up to three solar charges. You'll know when it's fully charged when the three smaller crystals on the hilt glow. These charges can be expended in two powerful ways:

Solar Edge: Temporarily increases the Dawnreaver’s radiant damage for several attacks, empowering each strike with intensified solar energy.

Radiant Burst: Unleashes a 20-foot blast of searing solar light. Most creatures within the area must succeed on a Reflex or Fortitude save (GM’s discretion) or be blinded for 1 round. Vampires take additional radiant damage from the blast.

Special Effects

Solar Infusion: After 1 hour of exposure to direct sunlight, the Dawnreaver stores 3 solar charges. Charges fade at dawn and cannot be regained through magical light unless specifically solar-based.

Radiant Edge (1 charge): For 1 minute, the blade deals an additional +1d6 radiant (light/fire) damage per hit. This radiant damage is doubled against vampires.

Radiant Burst (1 charge): As a standard action, release a blinding 20-foot solar flare. Creatures within must make a DC 17 Reflex save or be blinded for 1 round.

Vampires in the area take 3d6 radiant damage (half on successful save). This is both a light and fire effect

Vampire Slayer: Deals double total damage to vampires, for the radiant damage. Other undead are unaffected unless sunlight-vulnerable.

This upgraded form grants the weapon enhanced radiant power, including the ability to store solar energy charges and unleash potent effects in combat. The Dawnreaver’s refined construction and improved enchantments make it significantly more powerful than its base form, making it a favored weapon among elite undead hunters.
