Aquadians

Aquadians are a species that bridge the life between land and sea. Known for their deeply emotional nature, they feel everything intensely—whether it’s joy, sorrow, or anger. It’s not uncommon to find them laughing heartily one moment and overwhelmed the next. This emotional openness sets them apart from other sentient species.

Though fully capable of living on land, Aquadians are naturally adapted to aquatic life. With enhanced lungs, aquatic vision, and water-aligned magic, they thrive in coastal regions and wetlands. When you meet an Aquadian, expect sincerity, passion, and the calming presence of someone connected to the rhythm of the tides.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aquadians are medium-sized bipeds with webbed hands and feet. They have ten webbed fingers and ten webbed toes. About 50% of the population has retractable fins along their calves and forearms, which aid in swimming. Their ears are three-pronged and spiky, positioned on the sides of the head.

They have round skulls, expressive eyes with solid black sclera and brightly colored irises, and standard humanoid facial features. Skin texture may vary between smooth or subtly scaled, depending on regional lineage. Hair quality is high, and facial hair is common among males.

Natural Magic

Aquadians possess natural resistance to Water Magic and a vulnerability to Wind Magic. About 80% of the population has innate water-aligned magical abilities.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aquadians reproduce via male-female pairs. Gestation lasts nine months, and fertility typically ends around age 120.

Growth Rate & Stages

• Aquadians are considered infants between the ages of zero and four, during which time they were completely dependent on their parents for food and care. They gradually pick up mobility and world awareness.
• The next stage is kids who learn, play, and grow between the ages of five and twelve. Although kids are not as dependent on their parents at this point, they are still present to meet the majority of their needs. This also when their fins will start to develop if they have them. However, young kids are inquisitive and beginning to understand others and themselves.
• Between the ages of 13 and 25, their bodies begin to evolve and develop into adults, which is referred to as the teenage years. Their physical body begins to gain figure, height, weight, and muscles. Their lung will also become stronger and they will be able to hold twice or 3 times as long. In most situations, this is also where natural magic develops. In most circumstances, they will also begin to establish their identity and become less reliant on their parents.
• From the ages of 26 to 163, they are in their adulthood, their bodies have matured, and they have a good sense of what their natural magic will do. It will continue to develop as they age, but in most cases, it has a set of talents.
• From 161 to roughly 200 years of age, they are elders; their bodies have gradually begun to slow down and become weaker, as have their magical talents if they are not kept up with. Other people regard them as wise because they have lived a lengthy life for as Aquadians. This is the Aquadians life cycle.

Ecology and Habitats

Aquadians prefer to live near large bodies of water—especially coasts, lakes, estuaries, and rivers. Though they can dwell inland, they naturally gravitate toward moist environments and avoid arid or frozen regions when possible.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aquadians are omnivores, but they digest fish-based proteins best. Other meats are harder on their systems. They enjoy both land and sea-based plant life, provided it's not poisonous. Their cuisine often features kelp, coral fruits, and seafood delicacies.

Aquadians are emotionally perceptive and socially intelligent. While some can appear reserved or overly sensitive, they are excellent judges of character and tend to be very intuitive.

• Smell: Well-developed on land, but limited in water due to lack of air-based scent molecules.
• Touch: Excellent tactile awareness. Used in navigation, magic, and environmental interaction.
• Taste: Highly attuned, especially to saline, brine, and aquatic herbs. Can sense all five basic taste categories.
