Tol-Aughú, King of the Húmentari

"Do not let your mind wander when in the presence of Tol-Aughú... there is a reason why the Behti call him the 'Father of the Ifrit, Lord of the Djinn'..."
— Sabairän Hömmrän, explorer and scholar, 1293 4E
Though the kings and queens of the Mentari have been out of the public eye for millennia, no one has forgotten about Tol-Aughú.   Many myths and legends have popped up around the figure of the King of the Húmentari, painting him as either good or bad. Like the indifference of the fire, which can destroy without preference whilst also being able to bring warmth if contained, Tol-Aughú is indifferent to the comings and goings of humanity, the total opposite of his wife, Tae-Celcagta, who is passionately concerned with humanity.   Tol-Aughú has forgotten about who he was before the Creator transformed him into what he is now. Once a proud but faithful human who fought against the tyrannical splinter group that was fully committed to eradicating what remained of Avva'ai's Faithful, Tol-Aughú now could care less about what the Creator would want him to do.   When it comes to the nature of fire, Tol-Aughú embodies the wild and uncontrollable nature of the flame, the hungry and insatiable force that has consumed both the guilty and the innocent. In contrast, Tae-Celcagta represents the kind and gentle side of fire, the warmth that staves off the cold and helps delicious food cook over a roaring fire.

Etymology

'Tol-Aughú' means "fire making king" or "king fire maker" from tol ('king'), aug ('make, create'), and ('fire, flame'). 'Tol' has only been seen to be hyphenated to names historically when referring to Mentari Kings.

Physical Description

Body Features

As the king of the Fire Elementals, Aughú is the physical embodiment of fire, flames, and conflagration. Rarely does he assume a human form, and when he does his flames are barely concealed and his form often flickers like a mirage because of it. And when he takes on this form, he resumes the form he had before the Creator gifted him after the battle that led up to the Shattering: a lean, well-built man with lightly-tanned skin, grey eyes (now yellow-grey), black hair and matching mustache and beard.

Special abilities

As the king of the fire elementals, he has complete control over fire. Of all the creatures that stand above and below the surface of Eldûra, he is the only one able to snuff out a fire as massive as a wildfire—an ability only surpassed by the Creator, Avva'ai—the only stipulation is that he has to be there in order to suppress it.

Mental characteristics

Mental Trauma

Like all the kings and queens of the different elements, Tol-Aughú experienced constant harassment from the deceived and the steady dwindling of the People of Avva'ai. Even though the injustice set a fire in his soul, doubt and uncertainty and even despair were a constant plague upon his mind. This would develop into a scar that would follow him even after the transition from human to mentari, something that would lead to him developing a rough, gruff attitude that often puts others off. It also led to him growing ashamed of the "weakness" of humanity, as he has grown to believe that if he had been mentari before the Shattering, the People of Avva'ai would have been able to recover.

Intellectual Characteristics

When the Mentari describe someone clever and cunning, or hot-headed or cruel, they often refer to them as an "Aughú", or that they have an "aughún" temperament. And there is a reason...   Tol-Aughú has always been considered intelligent, even before the Creator changed him into the King of the Húmentari. His cunning blossomed during the final battle where the remnants of the People of Avva'ai stormed the Deceived's Settlement, and it has only continued to grow.    His intelligence is often considered incredibly dangerous and one is wont to reconsider confronting him in any way if they think to do so.

Morality & Philosophy

This king of the undying flames has a morality that often keeps the mortals on their toes. In our Earthen popular culture, he would be considered a "Chaotic Neutral".

Social

Contacts & Relations

MayimmentariThe Water Elementals — The greatest rivals of the Húmentari, and their most powerful foe if their ire is stoked against them. With their queen and prince regent amongst the most faithful of all Mentari, they view Tol-Aughú with a mix of worry and disdain for his fall from faith.   TëmentariThe Wind Elementals — Cordial allies of the Húmentari, though the king of the Gementari keeps a careful eye on Aughú. While the wind often feeds raging wildfires, Tol-Tëmentari takes care to not inflame Aughú's temper or passion.   GémentariThe Stone Elementals — Friendly allies of the Húmentari, reflecting how fire can affect stone and how stone can stand up to the harsh effects of fire. This has led to several unions between the more amicable members of both lineages, giving rise to a new kind of mentari: the Lava Elementals, the Géyaulmentari. The king of the Stone Elementals, Tol-Gémentari, is a good friend of Aughú, but his memory has not changed and he remains resolute in his faith in the Creator. And despite his friendship with Aughú, he is ready to try and put him down if it comes to it.   GéyaulmentariThe Lava Elementals — Despite the friendship between their ancestral lineages, members of the Lava Elementals want little to nothing to do with Aughú. This is due to the fact that Aughú wishes for them to fall in line under his leadership while they wish to remain free. They understand that Aughú wants control over the heat in their lava.   GobïmmentariThe Lightning Elementals — These elementals view Aughú and his kind with open disdain, as they view the heat of their lightning superior to the heat of the flames.   CermentariThe Ice Elementals — If the Mayimmentari are considered the greatest rivals of the Húmentari, the Cermentari are their greatest enemies. Tol-Cermentari has vowed to kill Tol-Aughú on sight as he, and the Húmentari as a whole, are a direct threat to the Cermentari's existence.   ËstmentariThe Starlight Elementals — Though their starlight is hotter than flames could ever be, Tol- and Tae-Ëstmentari have a neutral view of Aughú and the Húmentari. From where they dwell upon the seven moons that orbit Eldûra, they watch the comings and goings of the fiery king and his people and discuss his actions. Due to how hot they can make the air around them, they rarely descend to the world below and thus have little to no contact with Aughú.

Religious Views

Once, back when tigers used to smoke, Aughú was a faithful follower of the Creator. His passion was fiery and he led the charge whenever the Creator bid them move against the unfaithful. But like a candle flame placed inside a glass cloche, his faith began to gutter out—and for reasons only he knows.   Aughú no longer considers his actions through the filter of faith and he has become quite selfish. What the Creator might think of what he does rarely crosses his mind nowadays.
