Mistwhisper Isle

Mistwhisper Isle, a jewel upon the surface of the Moonspan Ocean. A gorgeous sight that would often stun sailors as they sailed past. The sunlight glittered upon and passed through the glass structures that rose up from the stone of the island, casting rainbows upon the water. It seemed like something out of a dream, an impossible place that would retreat from you if you tried to approach it.   This magically place was the creation of the Hëtmentari—the Glass Elementals. The had once lived in a beautiful and remote valley named Whisperglass Valley where they had built tall and twisting trees made of glass of every colour imaginable. It was a place that drew in people of every race and walk of life, and some never left, opting to make a settlement nearby in order to be close enough to go and see those beautiful glass trees whenever they wanted.   There was something mesmerizing, almost magical about the sight of those glass sculptures. Something that could never be explained, and would never be able to be explained.   The Epoch of War was a harsh and damaging time. Wars were waged between nations and between good and evil as that epoch's avatar of the Undoer strove to bring everything to ruin just to spite the Creator. Thousands died, and even though the Hëtmentari tried to stay out of it and tried to offer shelter for their friends who lived in the settlement nearby, war eventually found its way to the lands around the valley.   It was brutal. It was horrible. The human settlement was on fire as the armies of good crashed into the army of evil. So many more died, man, elf, dwarf, E'duni, mentari...   It all ended with a wail and a hammer from above. Some of the Hëtmentari, either sensing that something earth-shattering was about to happen or read the progression of the battle correctly, fled the valley, disappearing from history right before the unthinkable happened. Driven by grief caused by the endless bloodshed and witnessing all his friends die, an Ëstmentari star elemental called down a mountain from above, an meteor by the name of 'Rekathusilo', which crashed down upon the battlefield, completely obliterating the valley and almost all of the fighters on the field.   The Hëtmentari's home was destroyed, most of the Hëtmentari were killed, wiped off the face of Eldûra, and the debris kicked up from the impact blocked out the sun's warmth, leading to the Epoch of Snow.   The remaining glass elementals laid low during this time and this was a blank spot in their history. When the snows began to melt 300 years later, the world found that the Hëtmentari had moved to the island they would name Mistwhisper Isle. The Cementari, one of the only races that had been able to walk freely upon the surface during those cruelly, bitterly cold years, say that they watched the Hëtmentari cross the ice to the island before it melted, though they are unsure as to what drove them to make that move other than that the glass elementals saw that everything would soon return to normal and that they wanted to remove themselves as far from any conflict that may arise to harm them again.   So the Hëtmentari settled on Mistwhisper Isle and made it their home. Once the snows melted and the cold faded away, they made their new home even more beautiful than the one that had been so cruelly ripped from them.   This new home would stand for a long, long time, until the end of the Epoch of Recovery.   Then calamity would strike them once again, and not one Hëtmentari would survive to see the complete destruction of their second home.   Unbeknownst to the Hëtmentari, the beautiful Mistwhisper Isle sat upon a massive volcanic magma chamber fed by the magma that seeped up from the mantle exposed by the pull-apart of the Moonspan Ocean's mid-ocean ridge.   One day, that magma chamber split open in six places, and massive amounts of lava erupted into the ocean. The water of the ocean boiled like water in a cauldron, and fish died in the thousands. Lava bombs rocketed into the air and came crashing down onto Mistwhisper Isle, shattering glass and killing Hëtmentari. There was no way for them to escape, as they had not bothered to make boats.   So much lava left the magma chamber that six new islands were formed. The magma chamber was empty and the sea floor fell into the void, dragging Mistwhisper Isle down under the waves until only the tallest point of the island stood above the water, capped with the remains of the isle's lighthouse.

Geography

"It is so... beautiful. It is a dream. A dream set adrift on a crystal sea. Moonlight danced upon the streets and light had form..."
— Sailor Escel, son of Abé
Mistwhisper Isle was a beautiful, stand-alone island located far out into the sea. Not much is known about the place before it was destroyed because most of those who found their way there were never seen again. And any who did come back would not say much, other than "It was so beautiful."   From afar, captains who managed to snap out of it would often describe the island in their logbooks. The would describe the rock as being nearly white in colour, and some would speculate that it was probably made of marble and granite with some other stone types mixed in. This would mean that the island should have been extremely sturdy, but apparently it was not sturdy enough.

Climate

The island itself seemed to calm the weather systems that happened to pass over them. No one could ever complain about the safety of the waters that surrounded Mistwhisper Isle, which some speculate was caused either by direct interferance from the Hëtmentari or from some agreement with the Gobïmmentari (storm/lightning elementals), Tëmentari (wind elementals), and/or Mayimmentari (water elementals) that they had.   Due to the islands vague location placing it nearly halfway between Aegéfaer and the continent where Vedour and Coratan are now located, the average temperatures were more stable and less prone to swinging. It could get quite warm there, but it would often not stray from a balmy 26°C (78.8°C), a temperature that was tempered by the cooling sea breeze that never seemed to stop.

Fauna & Flora

The only flora that can truly be confirmed are those magnificent glass trees that would glitter in the sunlight. Sailors and their captains could never really tell if they were alive or simply sculptures like the ones that used to exist in Whisperglass Valley. The island was always too far away to know if any fauna existed upon it, aside from any animal-shaped glass mentari. The sight of the island often made the viewer forget about the possibility of approaching it and they would leave it alone and sail on.   The waters around the island were teeming with life, though, and the sailors would always get an eye-full of that. Glassy, see-though fish were in abundance, dancing amongst coral that looked like stained glass. Sharks seemed to avoid the area, probably due to how bright it was, but cruised back and forth on the edge of the area where the sea shelf dropped down to deeper depths below.   Crabs, Glass Anemones, and sea turtles of every kind flourished in these waters, alongside dozens upon dozens of other, more commonly known, fish species. The sailors never went hungry when passing through there.
