The Mirror

The Mirror lays beyond The Veil. The world has a gray-blue tint to it and is unbearably frigid. While there is air here, it is recommended that you do not breath in The Mirror. The chill of the world, when drawn into the lungs, can cause extreme pain and even frost burns.   The only things reflected in The Mirror are objects with a living connection to one of the four elements. Stone buildings, for example, are reflected, where door frames, wooden doors, tables, or chairs are not since the wood is dead. Living trees are reflected normally, but glass is not.   Flames are present, often as floating or sourceless, colored a sapphire blue and casting shadows. What is shadow in the physical world looks as if it is bathed in sunlight in The Mirror.   Oddly, Water is not well reflected in this world. The only observed water reflected belong to large rivers or oceans, where they are black as pitch and seemingly solid. Stepping upon them can prove fatal though. The surface has only minimal tension, acting like a congealed liquid, slowly giving way to the weight of the person.   Shadow Dancers are the only living beings capable of walking The Mirror. Over the centuries they have turned their Shadow Walk into an art with specialized light clothing enchanted to repel the cold so long as it remains in tact.   Time flows differently in The mirror than in the physical world. In The Mirror, time moves slowly, which attributes to the seemingly instantaneous travel between shadows for Shadow Dancers . Their held breath is subjected to the rules of the physical world so long as they hold it. When they release it, it resets, requiring the dancer to breathe regularly. This can prove to be a fatal mistake.   While they traverse the mirror, they are able to move at their normal speed, but this tends to exhaust them faster. Moving slower may get them to their destination slower, but it allows them to go further.   It is recommended that one does not linger in The Mirror.
