Battle Mages
Fire Burns All
As seen in
Knowler, God of Knowledge and Power
After the Historians Guild was established, Knowler founded the Battle Mages. This military force had Wizards and Flame Archers. Their fire magic burned foes and protected Hystoria until allies were needed elsewhere. Since the second invasion of Magick Glades, escorts were provided to merchants around the hostile ruins.History
Knowler continued to research the world of Astnyr when Beight left on an expedition with the Light Paladins and Healing Clerics. Nave formed her own order in the city of Magick Glades, and was far from Hystoria. While many citizens of Hystoria volunteered to become Scholars alongside Knowler, many still volunteered to protect the God and the Scholars under his wing. These men and women (and others) then became Wizards and Flame Archers, learning from their mentors within the Historian Guild. Many kept their oath to serve and protect, but some became victims in their search for more powerful magics. After Lunarius became the god of madness, this new power attracted these mages. Even after Lunarius was sealed after the Great War, many still follow him as mages of madness. Fire magic was discovered in ruins within the Great Wilds by Knowler before the Great War. It was picked up by the Battle Mages for a better advantage magically. They used to have to depend on just their weapons, but magic was on the table from then on.High Mage
The High Mage was the battle commander of the military force. They were responsible for planning battle plans and patrol routes. High Mages were also known to attend important lectures within the Battle Mage academy to help Mentors give examples. There was one responsibility that was the most important. To keep Wizards from becoming corrupt with madness magic. However, sometimes there was someone the High Mage missed. The Wizard responsible usually snuck out of Hystoria and went on to become a Mage of Madness. Or something worse happened. Citizens killed by said Mage. Luckily, there were no records of a High Mage ever becoming a Mage of Madness.Wizard
Wizards made up a military power of 7,000. With there being so many, one would wonder why it was so popular of a formation within the Battle Mages. There was sense of proving themselves as well as protecting each other from becoming Mages of Madness. However, over 1,000 became corrupt every yearly cycle. Wizards were trained in the art of fire magic. With ranged and melee capabilities, these casters became a force to be reckoned with. There were two training elements to become a Wizard. These are rapier training, and fire magic. Rapier training included trainees learning how to slice and pierce their enemies. The weight of the one-handed finesse weapon could be a challenge at times, but many persevered. They were taught to thrust and piourette with their rapiers in battle. Fire magic training was taught by Mentors who first discovered fire magic. Trainees were taught how to wield said magic and how to enchant their rapiers. The enchanted rapiers burned anything and anyone it touched. Wizards were gifted magical robes and candles upon graduation. Their robes gave them resistance from fire, as well as other elements. The candles they were gifted is a storage device for their magic. Spells that the Wizard was not using at that present day or moment, they could store in their candle. These candles were usually kept in their homes, or locked compartments.Flame Archers
Flame Archers had the military power of 4,000 archers. They attacked from above with fire arrows and burn any enemies they shot. Their hope was that only a flaming carcass was left behind. There wasn't corruption within the Flame Archers, but they helped Wizards keep the casters in line. The training of the Flame Archer made it so they could proficently use the tools given to them, their long bows and arrows. Their magic came second to these initial tools, but there were times spells needed to be used during combat. The three training courses Flame Archers should undertake are weapons, fire magic, and threat assessment training. Weapons training consisted of using long bows and arrows to take down or stun a target. Vital points of the body were learned with the area the fire arrow must strike in every situation. Fire magic training included regimens similar to Wizards. Finally, assessment training taught Flame Archers about probable cause and reasonable suspicion to act upon their discretion. With their posts so high from the city, all they could see is within these suspicions. Flame Archers were gifted steel and leather armor that was resistant to fire magic. This was beneficial if a fellow archer accidently fires at a friendly target. With how small the formation of Flame Archers can be, it is not easy to mistake a target, though it does happen. Knowler was in the process of researching for a solution to improve archer sight, or change of armor properties.
