Elven Lords of Aerenal
The Elves of Aerenal are exiles from the south-western continent of Xen'drik. 40,000 years ago, they were enslaved by the giants who built a mighty civilization on Xen'drik, but they rebelled and fled when that civilization fell to the flames of the dragons of Argonnessen. Elves today live in Khorvaire, and drow remain in Xen'drik, but the bulk of elvish population resides in Aerenal, split into several subfactions.
Aerenal elves worship the Undying Court, a group of undead elven ancestors. Day-to-day affairs are handled by the Sibling Kings. Use of necromancy and interaction with the dead is commonplace, and the elves have a constant need of textiles and embalming oils to care for the Undying. But this is nothing like the practices of Thay - all necromancy must be performed in a respectful manner. The most egregious of all crimes in Aerenal are considered to be those committed against the dead and undying, and the ultimate act of heresy is to consume a soul to absorb its power and knowledge.
