Eudora's abilities were coming in stronger everyday, I was lucky this last time. If her father had gotten home 10 minutes sooner, he would have seen his little girl singing, surrounded by every creature that was nearby in the forest. Thank the Gods there was nothing bigger than a fox.
Peisilous is a good father and a loving husband but he is too trusting. He would want to follow the law and get her registered, where they would poke and prod at her until she showed them what she can to. Then just like my friends daughter they would show up when she was older with a job offer, but with 10 armed men standing at your door its not much of a choice. Her daughter used to send letters, explaining how happy she is, they stopped 6 months ago.
I knew I had do something before she got caught. I wanted to tell my husband but brief mention of magic had him spouting off about the good of the registry. Instead I confided in my friend my troubles and she told me, 3 blackbird feathers at my door and someone from The Gifted would come. I had heard of them, almost everyone had by this point, but I never really consider what a resistance group would find useful about a non-magic mother and her small child. I was desperate though, so I went searching for some feathers, it wasn't hard, with my backyard regularly becoming a menagerie. I hung them and waited.
6 weeks and a few more barely hidden 'outbursts' from Eudora later a note was slipped under my door while Peisil was working.

Significance

The Gifted has unregistered magic users use 3 blackbird feathers tied on the front door of their home to indication they want to join the their group. If they live in a smaller village or too far from any mains roads, they are to attach the feathers to the pin of a basic notice board message and pin it to the closest board to a main road. When a member of The Gifted spots it they will slip the person a message with a time and place to meet. Non-gifted supporters of the group will hang 2 feathers on their home or on their person, either in their hair or clothing.
