Zidao
The Zidao (known by other names across the lands) are a terrestrial, semi-humanoid, semi-insectoid species of very high intelligence that live confined to Ya Sangdi (Akkof Woodlands, Akkáb Woodlands). They are obligate carnivores, and their main source of food is big game animals. They are also endocannibalistic; all of their dead, save for those afflicted by disease at the time of death, are eaten. Their average lifespan is between 35-55 years, and they stand at around 11 feet tall.
The Zidao have immense psychic abilities developed through the bloodlines of generations upon generations who have lived in Ya Sangdi, constantly surrounded by the highly strange black, thorny trees of the region. Their main abilities are those of teleportation, psychokinesis, and the ability to open portals to other planes of existence; the Zidao cannot enter or pass items into the portals they create, but they can accept objects being transferred to them from the other side. They cannot venture too far from the trees that sustain their powers, but they will converge upon any perceived threat or breach of territory along their borders en mass in an immediate and violent manner. Due to this extremely hostile nature, there has been a “no man’s land” drawn around Ya Sangdi to avoid deadly encounters that threaten the Khasaazeh and the Brìgdoell.
The most fascinating aspect of Zidaonan culture is their relationship with a little-documented ultraterrestrial race identified to them only as “the Tweso;” the Zidao regularly commune with and are completely deferential to the Tweso, who are interested in their advancement and give them instructions and diagrams to build various structures and tools. These blueprints are always diligently and carefully followed. The Zidao are entirely devoted to the Tweso, and while they do not revere them as gods, they and their culture are seen as the ultimate ideal towards which their loyal servants will always strive. Almost all structures in Ya Sangdi were derived from Tweso plans and almost all the technology the Zidao have were handed to them by the Tweso. The sole societal goal of the Zidao is to build whatever their blueprints tell them to. They have no spoken or written language, mainly communicating telepathically and on occasion with basic vocalisations. The Khasaazeh call the Zidao the Vinakh, the Brìgdoell know them as the Halcrót, and to the Créndual they are the Hircré.
