Enmensur, Lord of Beasts

The First Brother of Oros

(a.k.a. Fangbane, Worldbreaker, the Mountain Triumphant)

Holy Books & Codes

  • The Epic of Caham: This ancient work for poetic prose follows the journey of a Shining One scribe through the final century of the War of the Souls. It details his travels alongside Enmensur and his Scions as they hunt down Dranlegoritha's remaining Emanations, finally culminating in the death of the primordial itself.
  • The Movements of Mountains: A mystical writing dated from the time of the Second Howling. It is a meditation on stillness and the virtue of stoicism in the face of an ever-changing, chaotic world.

Tenets of Faith

  • I will learn the weight of my sword. Without my heart to guide it, it is worthless—my strength is not in my sword, but in my heart. If I lose my sword, I have lost a tool. If I betray my heart, I have died.
  • My strength is my sacred offering. I will maintain my body as I would a sacred relic and use it only for admirable pursuits.
  • Those in positions of power are also in positions of responsibility. Those who fail to properly lead those under them fail their people, themselves, and the natural order of everything. I will lead with strength and responsibility.
  • Should leaders fail their people, it is for the benefit of all that they be replaced. If they will not give up power peacefully, I will help remove them by force.
  • I will never refuse a challenge from an equal. I will give honor to worthy enemies, and contempt to the rest.
  • I will suffer death before dishonor.
  • The dishonorable, the disgraceful, and the treacherous deserve no mercy. I will reduce them and their ilk to dust, leaving no trace of them in the books of history.
  • Protect those who are weaker than you, for you are a symbol of what leaders should and can be. It is the fate of the strong to protect the weak, embrace this truth.
  • I keep to the old ways, the true ways. I am not seduced by the lure of money or power. I remember that true honor comes from within, not from the accolades of others.
  • I will not be taken prisoner by my free will. I will not surrender those under my command. I will never abandon a companion, though I will honor sacrifice freely given. I will guard the honor of my fellows, both in thought and deed, and I will have faith in them.

Holidays

  • Titan's Fall: On this religious holiday in late Rainsmoot, the Soulborn of the Brisingelion remember the fall of Dranlegoritha, Whose Fangs Rend the Heavens - the only primordial to suffer true death in the War of Souls. Huge effigies of Dranlegoritha and its Emanations are paraded through the streets before being beaten apart by revelers with clubs and stones.
  • The Coraetheon Games: A series of athletic competitions among representatives of all the cullic kingdoms every six years. Celebrating sport, a healthy body and the competitive spirit, they are held in honor of Enmensur and feature sixteen days of competition, ritual, and celebration.

Temples & Shrines

Enmensur’s temples tend to have the appearance of strongholds or citadels. They are walled and gated, usually in defensible locations, such as atop mountain crags. They are always ready for a battle or siege, and are kept stocked with weapons, armor, and rations.   Shrines to Enmensur are typically cairns with a helmet or blade set atop, single or multiple menhirs arranged in geometric shapes, or even caves.

Providence

Of all of the deities, save for Oros, Enmensur is the least responsive. It is his belief that strength comes from within, not from without, though his Scions are among some of the most active of their kind.   The Lord of Beasts sometimes sends messages that appear etched in stone to those he favors, though more often Enmensur remains stoic and silent.   Earthquakes are seen as the ultimate sign of his anger.

Rituals

  • A seeker who prays for increased might and vigor, whether physical, mental, or spiritual, should ritually scar their bodies with sharpened rocks and brand themselves with smoldering holy symbols
  • A seeker who wishes to sanctify an oath and pray for the strength to fulfill it should dress in the heaviest set of metal armor that is owned, then shout said oath to Enmensur at the top of their lungs, punctuating each pause for breath by smashing their weapon against a shield or against their armor-clad body
  • A seeker who desires to bless the construction of a new building should gather dirt and pebbles from the peak of the nearest mountain and the deepest part of the nearest cave, then bury them beneath the building's cornerstone
  • A seeker who wants to beg for the preservation of something in the face of certain destruction (war, natural disaster, monster attacks, etc.) can make or buy a sculpture representing the threat and then smash it into pieces atop an altar of animal bones
