Maleficent
A medical term used to describe a build up of befouled Kai within a person’s body, more specifically, within the Kai Soul . This can happen either when someone has chosen to take in befouled Kai to power their spells, stays in a location with too much of said Kai, or fires off spells recklessly.
When they are storing above the limit that their body can handle it starts to leak out into the bodies blood stream, gradually causing internal damage and bleeding and can - if left untreated - result in death.
Transmission & Vectors
This condition appears when far too much befouled Kai is present within a mage's body. It can be transmitted to other mages in close proximity if they are stage 3. At Stage 4, however, it can be transferred to actual humans.
Causes
The main cause is the large build up of befouled Kai within a mages body. Mage's are always absorbing Kai from their surroundings, but the Kai they tend to absorb is Raw Kai which is generated from plants. Befouled Kai, however, is Kai that can't be purified and thus is dangerous to a Majikkuyūzā. Which too much of this Kai builds up in the body, it leads to a condition known as Maleficent.
Symptoms
Small yellow burns appear on the skin as the first symptom of the condition, as time progresses without treatment; the color of the burns will shift into red for the second stage and blue for the third. The person becomes progressively more ill, with a high fever and chills.
Treatment
The treatment for this condition is rather simple, no usage of magic for a predetermined amount of time (depending on the symptoms), or the forceful expelling of the tainted Kai through the use of a Reverse Crystal.
Prognosis
- Stage one occurs largely in children due to their inability to control their magical intake. Stage one involves yellowing of the skin and chest pains
- Stage two revolves around red scars and bruises.
- Stage three involves blue scars, allows for transmission to other mages.
- Stage four is where things become untreatable. At this stage, the person's death is absolute. Their body will begin to break down and before unleashing the pent up tainted Kai within them into the world.
Prevention
It isn't easy preventing Magical Intoxication since magical scientists are still researching it; what is known is that not overusing one's magic can help prevent it. However, all mages eventually suffer from it.
Cultural Reception
Human Society views anyone with Maleficent as a threat to them, this is because at Stage 4, the mages very presence begins to kill off all life within a small area of them. This includes humans, animals, plants, etc. It is not uncommon for a Mage with Stage 1 within human society to be locked away, without any treatment, out of fear.
