Kai Soul

Kai Soul

The Kai Soul is the main source of a mage's magic, scholars aren't sure whether this mystical organ has always been in a humans body or appeared at some point in history, it is however, known that only .003% of the planets entire population actually possess one. Known as the Kai Soul by the Youth, or the Magical Engine by Scholars (though Kai Soul is becoming the more widely accepted term) It is an invisible organ that can't be physically seen, and thus can only be seen using a Magical Lens.   The purpose of this Soul is to not only generate raw Kai that is then stored in caches located around the soul, but to then process that raw Kai into Kai that can be channeled into spells. Another purpose is that the Soul augments the Mage's own brain, allowing them to cast very complex and time consuming spells. In a way, it works as a central processing unit.   Appearance wise, the soul looks like a blue orb that is elongated on the top and bottom, similar to that of a crystal but on a mystical level. Veins spread from the soul and connect to six caches that are used to store the processed Kai. This processed Kai is what the mage uses to cast their spells. They can't use Raw Kai as it lacks the properties needed for use in spell casting, this changes when it is processed.   In summery: The Kai Soul functions as a mechanism working to manifest Kai and mange its conversion into useful forms.

Sub-organs

There is an additional organ located close to the Kai Soul, this sub-organ is a secondary brain which is used by the soul as a means of augmenting the Aurelian's magical abilities. As a side effect though, it also makes it easier for the Aurelian to learn and adapt. This organ is, at present, UNKNOWN. Most Aurelian think that it is due to their magic that they are able to learn at a remarkable rate, compared to humans.

Growth

As the mage grows, so to does their soul; the soul changes in size and shape over the years in order to adapt to the height and age of the Aurelian.

Communication

As a mage gets older, more practiced, and begins to master their craft; they begin to develop the ability to subconsciously communicate with their Kai Soul. This allows them to consciously control the soul, permitting or even forbidding the in taking of Kai or even being able to sense the Maleficence within them.

Injury

It is possible for the Soul to be injured either through combat or by forced removal from a spell. While the soul can't be removed permanently, it can be injured enough that it would take a mage several weeks or even months to recover, during such time they are unable to use their magic. It requires a large amount of magic in order to injure the Kai Soul.

Species

The following species possess a Kai Soul:
