Thorn

Thorn is a short bush that produces a series of spiky oval-shaped leaves. These leaves have a powerful narcotic effect, causing minor alterations of perception and slight hallucinations. What makes this plant so potent, however, is its effects on the Caiten. If they get a whiff of this, they are almost irresistibly drawn to it and cannot help but smell it and rub it against their faces. This invariably leads to a stronger addiction until an endless loop is created. Those with strong constitutions can resist its effects, but only just.
This plant has naturally been picked up for use in the drug trade, mostly around Teontia. Savvy suppliers will grow it in secret greenhouses, process the leaves into a potent, but not nearly as addictive oil, then distribute that oil to any number of buyers. The Triumvirate hasn't seen a need to regulate this trade too thoroughly, but being caught in possession or usage of Thorn extracts can land you a stint in the dungeons.

Anatomy

A single thick skinned stalk with a radiating spiral of smaller thinner branches, the end of each of which can grow up to 5 leaves.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Leaves have spores on the bottom, when they reach a certain maturity, the spores drop from the leaves and catch on the wind, spreading to new patches of ground. In a closed environment this can be a problem in planters. A good Thorn grower will remove any new sprouts for fear of splitting resources too thinly in each planter.
