Winters Gift

Describe a winter tradition which exists within one culture of your world. What is celebrated, and what's involved in the festivities?   Starting as a festival within Magnum Opus and its populace, the merchants that came from the land spread the festivities of Winters Gift across the world, where it synchronized with other cultures celebrations for the end of the year, becoming the pan-eddan holiday that exists now.   Taking place for 7 days, starting the final Sun's Day of the year and going until the first Saturn's Day of the new year, each day has a theme of celebration in the modern-day. The first day is all about remembering what was lost in the last year. The second day revolves around cherishing that which you still have near you. The third day is a feast day, based around sharing a table with those closest to you. The fourth day is a day of gift-giving, of well-wishes and desires for the year to come. The fifth day is another feast day but based more around giving food to others and sharing the personal wealth with the community. The sixth day is based around being thankful for what exists outside your perimeter, the usually invisible aspects of one's life, stopping to smell the roses in simpler terms. Lastly, the final day is based on making resolutions or looking forward to what you seek to gain in the year to come.   As it involves a lot of introspection about one's lifestyle, this holiday is also a highly religious one among practitioners and is one of the few days all of Edda is closer to the Divine Realms, allowing for greater amounts of Divine Intervention and boons from the gods, the other being Veilnight.

History

The tale of Winters Gift is actually the same one as the tale that founded the town of Wind in Magnum Opus. A merchant caravan was making their way through the area but found themselves unable to press onward due to a terrible, out-of-season blizzard. They decided to wait in the area and take their chances, rather than press onward and certainly perish. But, as they rested and shivered, they soon found that it wasn't that cold at all. Even further, they were hungry but not starving, felt tired but not exhausted, felt thirsty but not parched. A Druid amongst the caravan felt the land itself gave them energy to live, an unprecedented act of Mana's own free will deciding to benefit them. While they founded the city of Wind in that location, seeing it as a divine sign, they also celebrated and gave thanks to the gods and to the land on the anniversary of that blizzard, which has evolved into the holiday.
