Introduction:

The Ecological Quarantine Unit and Antimicrobial Library, or EQUAL, is an artificially created species of bacteria that is present inside nearly every non-sentient organism in the Founder Galaxy. Its purpose is to both protect its host from alien infections and to destroy its host if it becomes an invasive organism on an alien world. This ensures that the biosphere of each planet is kept isolated without contamination from other biospheres.

Functions:

EQUAL's primary purpose is to ensure cross-ecosystem and cross-biosphere contaminations do not occur in addition, it performs several other functions for its host:
-Interfacing with the Neural Chip to transfer disease information to the host's immune system.
-Aiding the immune system in fighting off infection.
-Altering biomarkers and antigens to ensure transplanted material is cross-compatible.
-Self-destructing when exposed to specific antigens to provide an override if an EQUAL infection occurs.
