Born a slave in the western half of Breland, which is now Droaam. Was forced into grueling manual labor for his formative years. Was approached by a being which he has never been able to identify, which caused a nearby creeper vine to blossom out of season. It gave him magical power and the ability to escape.
This story comes in several variations, and there are others far more fantastical. It's impossible to tell exactly how true any given part of the story really is. The following 150+ years, especially during the Last War prior to opening the Glimmering Jewel, are seldom discussed.
