Mournland

On the 20th Olarune, 994 YK, a magical catastrophe struck the nation of Cyre and transformed the land that the country once occupied into a magical wasteland. The borders of the Mournland, which match roughly the borders of the now destroyed Cyre, are distinguished by the thick grey mist that forms a dome around the entire region.   There was a growing fear over the last few years that the mists would continue to spread, but it seems that this is not the case and that the borders of the Mournland have stabilised. The Day of Mourning served as the impetus for the thronehold nations to end the war, officially ratified by the Treaty of Thronehold in 996 YK, but the cause of the mourning remains unknown.   In the time since, many groups have ventured into the mists to salvage what remains of Cyre, some seeking to recover lost family, or family heirlooms, others trying to discover the cause of the disaster, and some just looking to profit. Those who return tell tales of a dangerous wasteland where magic doesn't work as it should, and strange things happen regularly.   The most active outpost for those seeking to venture into the mists is the border town of Salvation, on the border between the Mournland and Breland.

Healing in the Mournland

There are numerous rumours circulating around Khorvaire that magic doesn't function as it should within the mists, and that creatures don't heal naturally. Possibly related to the pristine condition that most of the corpses in the Mournland are in, something about the mists seems to prevent natural processes of decomposition and regeneration. Creatures don't heal naturally whilst within the Mournland, and magical healing doesn't work as it should.   There are some exceptions to this, however, notably the druidic spell goodberry functions normally, and Goodberry Wine can mitigate the effects of the Mournland and allow the body's natural healing processes to function, for a time.
