Treaty of Thronehold

The act that officially brought an end to the last war was the signing of the Treaty of Thronehold. The rulers of the original five nations plus delegated and diplomats from regions that had seceded met on the island city of Thronehold, the former capital and seat of power for the Galifarian kingdom, and negotiated the terms of peace in Khorvaire.   The boundaries of the new nations were decided and 12 in total were recognised as sovereign nations. The former 5 nations, Aundair, Breland, Cyre, Karrnath and Thrane had become 4 with the destruction of Cyre. The treaty also officially recognised the new nations of Darguun, the Eldeen Reaches, the Lhazaar Principalities , the Mror Holds, the Talenta Plains, Q'barra, Valenar and Zilargo. Despite sending representatives to the talks the monstrous region of Droaam was not officially recognised although no nation currently lays claim to the land beyond the Graywall mountains. The former nation of Cyre, the Shadow Marches, and the Demon Wastes were not represented in the Treaty. The Mournland is unclaimed.   Notable parts of the treaty include:
  • Thaliost, a contested territory between Aundair and Thrane was officially granted to Thrane.
  • The Warforged were officially granted their freedom and rights as citizens and House Cannith was ordered to cease all production of new warforged by destroying all creation forges.
  • The island of Thronehold was declared forbidden to all citizens of Khorvaire, it was to stand as monument to the great Galifar kingdom, watched over by the Deneith Throne Wardens.
  • Definitions were drawn up as to what constituted a war crime and a special court was formed to deal with war criminals. Deneith Sentinels were tasked with capturing these criminals and given the authority to cross borders in order to do so, and the House Kundarak run facility of Dreadhold was authorised to incarcerate these criminals.
  • Certain acts, including duels to the death, were outlawed within the 12 nations. Each nation was free to set and enforce its own laws so long as they did not contradict the Treaty of Thronehold.
  • The stockpiling of arms, be they mundane or magical, was outlawed. This included mundane and magical weaponry, offensive wands, scrolls and staves, dangerous magical constructs and undead troops.
  • The rights outlined within the Treaty were granted to all citizens of a recognised nation as well as any under legal employ of the dragonmarked houses.
  • The Treaty also contained numerous sections about repatriation of displaced citizens, reimbursement for exceptional losses and provisions for rebuilding.
