Thiar, City of Strength.

Written by Salen

The capital city of Thiar sits as the shining beacon of strength for the nation of Toth. Situated in the Southeastern corner of the island of Faergth, this port city is also the home of the nations naval assets and shipping guilds.

Toth Slave Market

The city holds many shops and carts that the orc merchants set up in the main square. Goods from all over the Shards can be found here and their slave market is the biggest in all of the Shards. The stage is almost 200 feet long and can accommodate a large group selling at one time. The stage is set near the edge of the city in case of rebellion, as they can actually drop that section into the sea if need be with little loss of orc life.

Toth Stone Navy

Thiar is also home to the nations stone ship navy, second largest only to the nation of Kair (by one ship). The ships patrol the coasts regularly, watching for pirates and protecting the coastal villages from the rare sea monster attack.

Demographics

Split between almost evenly between Grenlen and Gralen orcs, there is also a small presence of half orcs as well. Slaves account for over one third of the population.

Government

The city is run by the warlords conclave. While the warlord resides here, the day to day aspects of the city are handled by the conclave of lords that he appointed while he oversees the entire nation. Currently there are nine Lords on the conclave represented by the nine ruling orc houses of Toth.

Infrastructure

The city of Thiar has aquaducts, a sewage system underground, and bridges and towers.

History

One of the first orc settlements after Starfall, Thiar was a bastion of protection in the early days. Once slavery was instituted, the city started growing and their earliest dungeons were actually the very first slave pens. The orcs started by reinforcing the water caves near the shore and expanded upwards, building structures I the very stone with dwarven slaves. In the first year of slavery they lost over fifty dwarves to cave ins, broken support lines, or fatigue; but the city was growing.

Architecture

The buildings vary in this great city as it spans several types of land mass. There are cliff dwellings cut into the very stone walls that support the castle and city above, there are wood houses in the city proper above the water line, and the great castle is a stone masterpiece that sits proudly above the harbor watching the orcs scurry about beneath it.

Geography

This port city rests on the ocean above massive cliffs, where sea spray is almost constant near the edge. Above that the city sprawls on around the high grass plains and high stone walls protect the city from the vast grasslands beyond.
