The Mouth of Wend

Written by Salen

This huge Orc-made landmark is found in Thiar, City of Strength., in The Nation of Toth It stands as a representation of their worship and to show any who decide to come against them that they stand ready. The Mouth of Wend is a symbol of Wend, God of Battle, and shows a huge maw, open and screaming the gods fearsome war cry to any ships that may approach the harbor.

Hidden Defenses

Besides being massive and downright scary to any that come upon the harbor uninvited, the Mouth also holds a first line of defense. Huge chains with massive rocks attached are kept at the edge of its massive teeth and when ships pass under, these rocks can be levered off and hurtle down, smashing though the decks of attacking ships. The attached chains also keep them from retreating until the orc warriors can board the crippled ships and slay all aboard. (Unless they are slave material)

Purpose / Function

This structure serves as a bastion of thier faith and as a warning to any and all who decide to attack them that their God stands with them. This mega-structure also serves as a temple to Wend and is tended by the head war chief. Though no services are held here (It is far too remote for everyday orcs to travel to just for service) it still serves as a holy site nonetheless. The temple has over forty Swords, preists of Wend, that travel to the churches and spread the war cry of their god instead.

Holy day of Swords

Though services aren't held here, there is one such day that orc warriors do make a piulgramage to the mouth. The Holy day of Swords is held once a year to honor the day that Wend came to the first priest and make his worship known. This day the orcs make the long trek up to the mouth and sing songs of battle and praise to thier fearsome warrior god.

Alterations

Over the years the Mouth of Wend has been upgraded and repaired as some skirmishes have chipped away at the stone pillar that it rests upon. The chains have also been replaced and reinforced over the years as the salt from the ocean eats away at them over time.

History

The Mouth was first constructed after the first warlord battle, as some of the ships tried to ram the harbor docks. After they had been put down, the Warlord Toth III decided to erect it as a warning and first line of defense against just such an attack.
