Talos

Mother of Gods

The Dance of Waters. A dance so profound and immense, it creates a maelstrom that shakes the very foundation of the world. As the Mother Sun dances with Father Night, the seas roar, and the winds howl, encapsulating the eternal cycle of blossom and decay. It is a divine spectacle that works as a reminder of their commitment to the unending rhythm of life and death. This dance just like everything else, is perfectly balanced.
The Dance of Waters, as explained the Greenwarden Circle

Talos, the Mother of Gods, Kaura, Zoles, Mother Sun, and countless other names, is the beating heart of nature's bounty and life's grand cycle in the pillar pantheon of Eastrix. As the Patron Goddess of Blossom, she weaves her divine magic into every new shoot that pushes its way towards the sun and every seed that burrows deep into the fertile soil. Her presence is felt in the nurturing warmth of the sun, the fertile depths of the earth, and the subtle dance of leaves in the wind. A deity celebrated far and wide, her followers - the Greenwarden Circle - find tranquility and wisdom in her teachings, honouring the sacred balance of life and the vibrant flourishing of nature. From the fertile plains of Eastrix to the dense forests, the reverence for Talos unites many cultures, each celebrating her divine essence in their unique way. Yet, in the intricate dance of creation and decay, Talos and her counterpart Kozhracarn perpetuate the eternal rhythm of life - a testament to their shared guardianship of nature.

Divine Domains

Agriculture: As the Patron Goddess of Blossoms, Talos plays an essential role in the realm of farming and agriculture. Her blessings are sought for abundant harvests and prosperous growth. Farmers and gardeners alike pay homage to her before sowing their seeds, hoping to gain her favor.   Spring: Talos presides over the season of spring, a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. She ushers in this season, filling the world with blooming flowers and lush greenery. The Spring Dawn Festival is celebrated in her honor when the first buds of the season appear.   Life and Fertility: Talos is the divine embodiment of life and fertility. Her powers influence the fertile soils that bring forth abundant crops and the proliferation of wildlife across Eastrix.   Forestry: Forests are considered sacred grounds of Talos. She is believed to dwell within their depths, providing sanctuary and sustenance to all forms of life.   Healing and Renewal: Talos is associated with the domain of healing and renewal, aligning with her sphere of influence over life's rejuvenation. Her followers often invoke her blessings for healing wounds and sicknesses, relying on her nurturing spirit to guide them towards recovery.   Druidic Magic: Talos is the primary deity revered by the druids of Eastrix. She is believed to be the source of their nature-oriented magic, granting them the ability to heal, shape-shift, and communicate with animals and plants.

Artifacts

The artifacts created by Talos are unique in that one of them is a group of constructs. The artifacts are:

The Law of Talos

The Law of Talos is an artifact shrouded in enigma, steeped in the history of the Age of Champions. At its core, it is a book, believed to contain profound wisdom and knowledge about nature's intricate workings and Talos's divine will. But the Law of Talos transcends the limitations of its physical form.
It is also a divine endowment, a blessing that Talos bestows upon her most faithful and worthy follower. This celestial benefaction offers the recipient a quasi-immortality, extending their life to span eons, and gives them the unique ability to manipulate the environment through transmutative powers. This power allows the holder to rejuvenate decimated landscapes, resurrect extinct species, and even influence the weather.
While the physical book of The Law of Talos is known to have surfaced during the Age of Champions, the celestial endowment's current whereabouts remain a mystery. Many devout followers undertake rigorous pilgrimages and trials, aspiring to become the next chosen vessel for this divine endowment.

Custodians of Talos

The Custodians of Talos are divine beings created in the aftermath of the great Spellplague. Born from the fears and apprehensions of Talos and Kozhracarn, they serve as the guardians of nature, upholding its sanctity against any who dare to harm it. Each custodian embodies one of the four elemental powers that constitute the Primordial Powers.
Orbis - The Custodian of Earth: Orbis, a colossal entity molded from the hardest bedrock and adorned with a myriad of flora, symbolizes the enduring strength and nurturing aspect of earth. His duty is to protect the land and its countless creatures.
Ifritti - The Custodian of Fire: Ifritti, a blazing entity of pure flame and ash, embodies the ferocity and cleansing nature of fire. She is tasked with the upkeep of nature's cycle of destruction and rebirth.
Auroron - The Custodian of Wind: Auroron, a magnificent bird-like entity made from swirling gusts, represents the freedom and carrying power of wind. His task is to oversee the skies and the creatures that call it home.
Tritiana - The Custodian of Water: Tritiana, a graceful entity formed from the purest rivers and deepest seas, symbolizes water's life-giving and adaptable essence. She safeguards the water bodies and marine life of Eastrix.
However, Kozhracarn's meddling has resulted in the perversion of some Custodians. While they were created to protect nature, these defected Custodians, driven by twisted directives, seek to bring about its destruction. This struggle between preservation and destruction, much like the balance between Talos and Kozhracarn, continues to shape the destiny of Eastrix.

Holy Books & Codes

While there are many texts concerning the teaching of Talos, there are two text that are held in high regard within the clergy of Talos and some speculate that Talos herself has blessed these text. Both texts have become guidebooks for followers of Talos, serving as foundational material for those who seek to honor the Mother of Gods by attaining inner peace through nature's wisdom. These text are:

The Ebb and Flow of Verdance

One of the seminal texts inspired by the divine word of Talos is "The Ebb and Flow of Verdance." Written by Amara of the Willowgrove, a revered follower and cleric of Talos, the book seeks to elucidate the path to attaining inner peace through harmonizing oneself with nature.
Drawing from zen teachings and interweaving them with the principles of druidic nature worship, Willowgrove teaches readers the concept of "Natural Zen," where inner tranquility is achieved through understanding and embracing nature's ebb and flow. She teaches about cycles of growth, decay, and rebirth and how one's life journey echoes these patterns.
She talks about the importance of surrendering oneself to nature's rhythm, learning to be still in the face of turmoil like a tree weathering a storm, and embracing change with the grace of a river shaping its course. The book explores the ideas of impermanence, resilience, balance, and unity through beautiful allegories, parables, and contemplative exercises.

The Green Path: Teachings from the Mother of Gods

Another critical text in Talos' teachings is "The Green Path: Teachings from the Mother of Gods." Crafted by Kael; a Wood Elf of the Silveen Forest and high druid of Talos, it is an extensive work focusing on cultivating inner peace through a deep symbiotic relationship with nature.   Sunhand introduces the concept of "Nature's Embrace," wherein one's spiritual growth is directly linked to their respect and care for the natural world. Readers are guided to meditate under the canopy of trees, communicate with the spirits of the forest, observe the gentleness of the blossoms, and draw wisdom from the constancy of the mountains.   The book delves into the idea of co-existence and mutual growth, where one nurtures nature and, in turn, is nurtured. It propagates a path of passive resistance, strength in stillness, finding beauty in simplicity, and, above all, aligning oneself to the 'Will of Talos.'

Divine Symbols & Sigils

In the faith of Talos, symbols play a significant role in representing the deity's divine presence and are incorporated into both common and secret religious practices.
The Skyward Tree: The most revered symbol is that of the Skyward Tree. It depicts a grand, sturdy tree, its branches extending high into the heavens above the clouds, symbolizing the resilience, growth, and eternal life bestowed by Talos. The tree serves as a reminder of Talos's domains over nature and creation and the belief that nature serves as a bridge between the earthly and the divine. This symbol is commonly found in places of worship, carved into holy artifacts, and sometimes tattooed onto the faithful as a mark of devotion.
The Blossom Doves: Another significant symbol is the Blossom Doves, representing peace, gentleness, and the beautiful side of nature that Talos encompasses. The Doves are usually depicted perched on the branches of the Skyward Tree, symbolizing harmony between all creatures and nature. The Blossom Doves are often used in secret rites, carved into talismans for protection and peace, or used in meditative practices to focus the mind and find tranquility.
The Sun over Blossom: The Sun over Blossom symbol represents Talos's aspect as the Mother Sun. It features a radiant sun shining over a field of blooming flowers, symbolizing warmth, nourishment, and the blossoming of life under the care of Talos. This symbol is often depicted in murals, holy scriptures, and used in annual festivals to celebrate the arrival of spring and new growth.
Together, these symbols not only represent Talos's divine presence but also serve as spiritual guides for followers in their quest to harmonize with nature and embody the teachings of Talos in their lives.

Tenets of Faith

The tenets of Talos, derived from the teachings in the Book of the Blossoming Spirit, guide the followers of this faith towards achieving harmony with nature, cultivating inner peace, and practicing constant vigilance in the preservation of nature.
Harmonize: Reflects the principles of recognizing nature as the great harmonizer, understanding the interconnectedness of all life, and cultivating inner peace and tranquility by aligning oneself with the rhythms and cycles of the natural world
Cultivate: Emphasizes the concepts of fostering personal growth, nurturing potential in oneself and others, and stewardship over the natural world, encouraging life to flourish and blossom under the loving gaze of Talos.
Preserve: Encapsulates the ideals of vigilance in the preservation of nature, respect for the cycle of life and death, and commitment to protect the sanctity of nature from harm, upholding the divine trust granted by Talos.

Holidays

The Days of Verdant Celebration are the main holy days for Talos, occurring during the peak of spring. During these days, followers engage in communal planting, the nurturing of new growth, and the celebration of the bountiful blessings of the earth. They end the festival with the Dance of Life, a serene and spiritual dance performed under the shade of the great trees, symbolizing their unity with nature.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Talos, the Mother of Gods, has a heart as deep and boundless as the fertile earth itself. Her known goals revolve around the nourishment, growth, and protection of all forms of natural life, from the towering trees to the tiniest insects. She encourages harmony between all living beings and the nurturing of the natural world. Her more personal goals, only known to the highest echelons of the Greenwarden Circle, involve the propagation and protection of sacred groves of magical trees across Eastrix, which she deems as the veins of the world, serving a greater purpose yet to be revealed.
