Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lani is rather petite, standing just about five feet tall. She has the physique of a long distance runner, though not the quite the stamina of one.

Facial Features

Lani sports a heart shaped face, but with no particularly unique or notable features.

Identifying Characteristics

Both of Lani's arms are covered in a full sleeve of tatoos: a dense array of tattoos depicting various models of solar systems, obscure mathematical expressions, and arcane theory. The tattoos entirely cover her arms, and are in a mix of standard Elvish and Oshran Elvish. Even the backs of her hands depict a solar system each, and each joint on a thumb depicts a star, while each finger joint shows a different sort of planet.

Apparel & Accessories

Lani usually wears a loosely fitting, short robe of midnight blue and silver over plain practical pants. The sleeves of the robe are perpetually rolled back leaving her forearms exposed, to display her tattoos. She is never separated from the tools of her magical craft, a heavy leather bound book, an adamantine staff with a head shaped like a spider, and an odd crystal orb, a deep red in color with another small metal ball embedded in it's center. When bored or waiting, she will frequently be spotted gently tossing the orb from hand to hand, spinning it, or rolling it.

Personal history

Lani was born and raised in the ancient Oshran city of Ithil Auryaundaar. Her mother was an arcanist of minor renown, and when Lani showed potential at a young age, made arrangements for her to be apprenticed to Ap'lek of Mym Dorei. The first seven years of her training were typical, learning the basics of magic. She was selected by Ap'Lek for personal instruction in the ways of Graviturgy. A century of near isolation later, and she built a magical machine to assist her with studies, and had finally developed an innate grasp of the mechanics of the bodies of the stars and planets. Unfortunately, very soon after she completed her training. The World Eater appeared in the sky, and Mym Dorei was taken out of time. When the city returned, El Ren was vanquished, and millennia had passed.

Mental Trauma

Most of Lani's apprenticeship was spent in solitude in an observatory. Desiring of company, she talks to herself. And utilizes the Magic Mouth spell to talk to her as well.

Lani is quite brilliant. She takes great pride in her ingenuity and creativity.

Lani abhors lying. So much of her life has been focused on gaining and sharing knowledge, and deception flies in the face of that.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Currently, her primary goal is to find and kill Aldeyn Coldfate, the former Arch Mage of Mym Dorei, who had been the chief advisor to the King, and the real power behind the throne. He had through his machinations persecuted the Chrono Knights, and by extension, Lani, for their use of Dunamancy. Aldeyn had claimed that Dunamancy was too risky to use, but it is also believed that he had attempted to master the art and failed. He also ordered an attack on Vareholm without the King's consent, which resulted in the near total annihilation of the Mym Dorei military.
She has some other goals, both shorter and longer term, such as assisting her friends in their personal goals, preventing apocalypses, and trying to start a telecommunications business.

Personality Quirks

When Lani tries to focus herself, calm her emotions, or start a new task, she goes through a small ritual of tying her hair back, even if it is already perfectly neat.

Hygiene

Lani only has one set of clothes, her apprentice robes. But makes good use of prestidigitation and mending to keep them clean and in good repair. She keeps herself clean by ample usage of the bathing facilities in the magical tower she can conjure.

Lani is currently dating another adventurer in town, a sorcerer known as Maizele.
Her mentor figure is Ap'lek, one of the Chrono Knights of Mym Dorei.

Family Ties

Lani grew up as only child, but did receive a letter during her studies saying that she had a younger sibling, who she never got to meet. Given that none of Lani's family were in Mym Dorei when it time jumped, she assumes, and hopes they are all simply long dead.

Religious Views

Lani is not the spiritual sort and pays homage to no god, though she respects Mystra and Ioun. Mystra for her dominion over magic, and Ioun because Lani seeks knowledge for knowledge's sake, and to share said learning.

Social Aptitude

Lani's social graces are a bit of an odd mix. She is fairly charming, and knows how to make a convincing argument, but has difficulty reading other people's reactions. She simultaneously thrives on the procedures of proper etiquette and has a slight disdain for the social hierarchy that it supports.

Hobbies & Pets

Aleister: A raven with several heaps of disdain for just about everyone and everything, a taste for eyeballs, and a penchant for repeating mimicked laughs and snickering at inappropriate times.
Cucumber: A clockwork wyvern, roughly the size of a small cat. When Lani is out and about, Cucumber is always alert, watching for threats. When there is no need for vigilance, they like to either curl around Lani's neck, like a necklace or to find somewhere they can receive as many belly rubs and nose boops as possible.

Wealth & Financial state

Like many wizards, Lani did not have much by way of wealth. As soon as money flowed in, it always flowed out to feed her constant hunger for new spells and material components.
