Personal history

The unfortunate 'accident' of a Waterdhavian escort and a well-to-do-ish Sailor, the little kiddo found herself "Traded" to a ship in exchange unburdening her mother from a child she had neither the time nor the desire to raise. Becoming the Captain's Ward from then on, the lucky child was raised at sea by the crew of the Occurence Border.   It wasn't a particularly stifling existence. After all, the water Genasi found a home treading on the sea, and for the most part, life was a happy thing. A bit strict, sometimes, and always hard-working, it wasn't until she hit her teens that she started wanting for more. Old Salt, the ship's cook, took her under his wing, and that's where the real trouble started. See, he was an ex-adventurer, and a pretty good one, too! The fella told Petra all sorts of stories about caves and wonders and forests so green and magical all the good fey were just dying to be friends with you.     How much was truth was always up for debate, he did like to exaggerate a bit, but at the end he would always teach her a little bit. Captain's work meant he was usually pretty busy, but in the Mess, so long as they were watching the food they could do whatever they want! Like read, or spar, or learn about all kinds of fruits. When shore leave hit, it continued, with lessons on tracking and what sorts of environments existed and how to survive off the land and what sorts of natural spices could be found.     Of course, this did nothing to help the girl's growing wanderlust, and by the time the Captain had been considering 'offering' her to another ship as some sort of Naval nobility shenanigans, she had up and went AWOL, ready to explore to her heart's content what the land had to offer.
