Caoimhe Ó'Faoláin Character in East Marches | World Anvil

Caoimhe Ó'Faoláin

Caoimhe Ó'Faoláin (a.k.a. Keev, Keeva)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Caoimhe is an imposing woman, broad shouldered, and solidly built. She stands tall for most humans, her physique almost sculpted enough to be considered lithe but not quite.

Body Features

Black hair is typically cut short, Caoimhe is olive-skinned, dark enough to give away the fact that she sees quite a lot of sun.

Facial Features

Vivid green eyes, thick and expressive brows, and a feminine yet solid jawline. A scar runs from one ear to the edge of her jaw.

Identifying Characteristics

Multiple (Gaelic) clan tattoos, many of them indicating life paths, choices, aesthetics and lineage.

Physical quirks

There's a pride and confidence to much of her movement. She has no qualms with who and what she is, and isn't afraid to show herself to the world.   Verbally, she speaks with a peculiar lilt common to her Clan, and it becomes more pronounced the longer she talks, though typically she'd prefer to say what she needed and be done with it.

Special abilities

Her blood has awakened her spirit. She possesses the ability to call forth an 'image' of herself, quasi-real and yet herself at the same time. They're not an uncommon sight in her Clan, but what they are is more a mystery lost to the ages. Their stories reference Sylvan and Fae origin, and even Caoimhe herself theorizes this is the origin of her gift, but even she's not sure.   She's showcased an ability to swap places with this other-her, and it is just as threatening as she can be when near an enemy.

Apparel & Accessories

Caoimhe dresses simply. When not in armor, she dresses comfortably in clothes that are easy to move in, and it isn't uncommon for her to wear less than normal and still be comfortable. She has a definitive abhorrence for close-toed anything, preferring sandals and caligae to shoes of any kind. In armor, her aesthetic is similar to the standard elite veterans of Temerity's house guard, simple, elegant yet effective.

Specialized Equipment

She has no specialized gear. As a fighter, particularly one who relies more on brute force and speed than precise technique, she favors weaponry and armor that accommodate her. She typically carries some sort of blunt weapon with her, though, as a matter of pragmatism, a dagger for close engagements, though her main weapon is a glaive of sorts - It looks as though someone had forged a longsword, making the hilt equally as long as the blade, if not a little longer.

Personal history

The Clan Cook [Her mother], Clan Shaman [Her Father], and Clan Chief [Aunt] all knew Caoimhe pretty well. As a child she was a rabble-rousing hellion, and that didn't stop all throughout her childhood. It might have gotten worse, had her blood not awakened to the call of her spirit. It gave her a sense of direction and a path in the clan to walk. She and her clan were a roving group. They had a lone island to call their own, and it couldn't hold them all. Often, crews were sent out, to raid, to venture out to find something to bring back to the clan, to take and pillage and steal to keep the Clan afloat. Keep it alive.   They were downriver, on the border of some land and some other land, they didn't pay attention too terribly much to who owned what, they all came after them the same if they weren't careful. They came across an army outright ransacking a village. Pillaging was one thing. Wanton slaughter another, entirely. Something broke in her, and before she knew it, the ragtag band of touched creatures carrying souls of rage and spirit callers and sorcerers and seers annihilated that invading force with fang and claw and steel and magic. When it was all said and done, there was no denying the rulers of the lands, now. The Chief entreated with Temerity's mother, and Temerity was sent to negotiate. While their island wasn't something they wanted to give up, having it be a part of that kingdom meant they had no other 'place' to go. Politicking aside, they'd gotten a good deal out of a nonaggression pact. Safe harbor and haven and an enemy to pillage they could do.   Life for Caoimhe, though, was an entirely different beast. Taking responsibility for her situation meant she was bonded to Temerity, a representation of the marriage of Clan holdings and Temerity's household. Ever since, she has found herself a certain degree of competency being the woman's bodyguard and servant.

Sexuality

Lesbian

Education

No formal education. Clan children were reared in a communal setting, though she did receive more instruction from her mother and father than anyone else. That included a bit of insight into their vocations.

Employment

She was an apprentice to both mother and father, as a storyteller and cook (Though neither really panned out. She could make an okay drink, though). Beyond that, much of her skill as a fighter was learned from the clan as a whole. The rest was picked up from guards and in brawls and in skirmishes and in raids.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Holds a relative position of comfort as a Noblewoman's bodyguard
  • Successfully repelled a force invading a country

Failures & Embarrassments

Used to have an "Enthusiasm for drinking." She still has it, but doesn't go quite so heavy on it. She has, on multiple occasions, embarrassed herself in front of people much, much more learned than she was, and a relative lack of social graces has embarrassed Temerity a few times.

Morality & Philosophy

Caoimhe's not exactly stoic, but she's not exactly loud, either. She generally keeps her personal counsel reserved unless she feels the need warrants such, but when something needs to be said or with-held, she's not afraid to be blunt with how and what she's doing. The direct approach is usually the best approach, and much of her thinking revolves around this. A door is shut? Break it down. Can't break it? Go around. That's not to say she can't be flexible in her thinking, but that creativity is a tool to be used, not an expression to be exercised.

Taboos

-Making an assumption about her means or motives, or otherwise projecting an intent she herself has not admitted to is a big nono.   -Threatening her charge.   -Disrespecting her clan/family.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

-Protect and serve Temerity. -Enjoy life -Find a good drink. -Live.   Caoimhe is a simple woman.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

-She considers herself a good judge of character. In the heat of the moment, not so much.   -She's a good skirmisher and brawler. Not a tactician.   -She's particularly responsible, if sometimes a touch overbearing.   -Diligent, but stubborn and set in her ways.

Likes & Dislikes

-She adores the open air, particularly if it's near the sea. -A good drink -She enjoys a good challenge, where and how and what does not matter. -She dislikes people who are not true to themselves. Lying she's fuzzier on, but lying to one's self is a quality she hates in anyone. -People who don't stop talking -She has a healthy dislike for politics.

Virtues & Personality perks

-Stalwart. She's resilient, emotionally, physically, and mentally. Her worldview is an exceedingly simple one. -Responsible. If something needs done, it will get done if she knows about it.

Vices & Personality flaws

-Overbearing. She has a tendency to take matters into her own hands, other's boundaries be damned. It's not due to a lack of patience, but more that when something is required, her endorsement usually involves taking a battering ram to someone's comfort. -Overconfidence. Though it happens less often than one might think, she does still have a tendency to overestimate her abilities.

Personality Quirks

An eye twitching is a surefire way to tell whether or not she has a thought on a subject. While it's not always a giveaway, it's the biggest one.   In relaxed company, it's not uncommon for her to be ""two places at once,"" alternating between her echo and her body.   The echo itself does exhibit personality traits not common to Caoimhe - It is freer with how it moves and expresses itself.

Hygiene

Caoimhe keeps herself well tended to, though she's not afraid of grime.   What she doesn't tolerate, however, is her equipment not functioning well, or being cared for. Her blades are always sharp, her hammer always polished, her armor well oiled and fitted at all times.

Social

Family Ties

Her family is a defining trait of hers. She still keeps in contact with them with the occasional letter, and being away from them is sometimes hard, though the only time one will see it is during particular holidays or her birthday.

Religious Views

She pays token worship to Sehanine, more out of a curiosity than anything.

Social Aptitude

Caoimhe is direct. When she wants something, she will take it. If she's curious, she will ask. Sometimes she doesn't get what she wants, but she possesses enough emotional intelligence to know whether or not she can risk pushing or not.

Mannerisms

She has a habit of slouching, sitting, or kneeling in order to look someone in the eyes when speaking with them.

Hobbies & Pets

Caoimhe has a token interest in brewing alcohol. Not quite in the 'make a good mug of ale' way, but more the 'make something so strong two sips gets you wasted' kind.

Speech

Her accent is vaguely Sylvan (Gaelic) in nature. Much of her Clan's stories talk about the spirits of Sylvain, and she herself has wondered if there's fae in her bloodline, but it's "Fun to think about. No way to find out if it's true."

Wealth & Financial state

It wouldn't be a stretch to consider Caoimhe ascetic. She doesn't want for a lot aside from some fun, and while she'll spend if something's functional, she has no real ambition beyond serving as Temerity's bodyguard.
