Asteria Character in East Marches | World Anvil

Asteria

Physical Description

Asteria, at first glance, is a young half-elf of moon elf blood. Upon closer look, her oddities are more noticable. Her eyes never reflect the world around them, just that of the nebulas of space. Her hair is shifting and shining like the Aurora Borealis, sometimes even showing her emotions with different colors. There are times when a pair of bat-like wings come from her back, looking less like a moral being but something trying to copy it.   Taking it upon herself to sport more of the local fashion, and warmth, she has adopted a new style of clothing; one that hides her tattoo and markings, although the starlight shimmer to her skin still remains. The sickle on her hip looks to be made out of moonlight, and she always keeps her star maps in her bag, which appears to be alive... and has a row of teeth…

Personality

With a child-like wonder to the world of mortals she has a thirst to learn everything she can, although her confidence is very much lacking. She's always second-guessing herself on everything, even more-so when it comes to interacting with others. But there is a romantic part of her within her love of romance books, even the dirty kind.

Reputation

She often helps out those who live outside of the bubble (barrier).

Relationships

  • Stella - Her familiar born from the same stardust that she was. Stella is her closet friend and her home.

Backstory

Asteria, like many of her siblings, is a star. But unlike many of her well-known siblings, Asteria is just a star and nothing else. She makes up no constellations nor helps guide those that are lost. She can’t even help with the passage of time. Just a star in the sky, with the unfortunate hobby of watching mortals. She is just a star lost in the sea that is the night sky. She could tell countless mortal lives just by her watching. Thanks to her curious nature, she could not look away. Thus, she has been keeping a close eye on the on-going progress of Idrell over the past few years. She wanted to join them, but alas, she was a star. Once they fall to the mortal world they become nothing but stardust, so she would just watch and wish, imagining how it would be to join the grand heroes on their epic quests across realms… wanting to be some kind of help during the battles of the false moon, and even more-so with Pikyr. Her siblings thought of her desire to be with mortals when they were with the gods. Although Asteria was scared of them, she found them rather intimidating and thus kept her distance.   Now, how she fell: well, she got a little too close to the veil during the battle of Pikyr. When the veil shattered in parts due to the death of the goddess of magic, she fell. There was nothing left to keep her up in the sky when she let her curious nature get the best of her. Most stars become dust or, in some cases, a rock, once they hit the mortal realm. This was not Asteria's fate. Instead, she hit what is known as the "Northern Lights" right as magic functionally returned. That’s all she can recall. Next thing she knew, she woke up on the ground outside the city known as Waterdeep. Now, she wants to find out why she did not become dust, and if she can get back to the night sky. Maybe she'll see more of the mortals she's been watching since the dawn of time while she's at it.
